Live Session: VH1’s ‘Hit the Floor’ bad boy McKinley Freeman

McKinley Freeman plays Derek on VH1’s highly popular scripted series, Hit the Floor created by James LaRosa. Season three of Hit the Floor opens January 25, 2016, the first show aired in May 2013.

Freeman’s character Derek is part of a major sub-plot continuing from season two. Hit the Floorfinished in #1 spots in both its debut AND season two, capturing the 18-49 demo in different categories each season. Twitter data indicates the show consistently ranks in the “Top Ten” on Monday night TV conversation.

We caught a few minutes with Freeman for a brief look as how he sees himself now in his acting journey, from the soaps and big screen to series regular on one of the biggest fan favorites on cable television. Freeman has a Bachelors in Finance and a Masters in Marketing and was recruited out of college by IBM where he excelled, prior to getting his first acting role on pure chance. A lover of poetry, he’s also published two e-books @McKinley Freeman Volume I – II A Collection of Poems By McKinley Freeman.

Stay tuned for part two with Freeman, as prepares to release a feature film in 2016 in which he acted and produced, called Illicit, an erotic thriller based on a unique twist on extramarital affairs. Illicit’s cast includes Dean Cain, Vivica Fox, David Ramsey, recording artist Tank and more.

I enjoyed this conversation, listen in below and learn how to get free autographed copies of his book on the night of Hit the Floor’s season three premier, January 25:
