#FreeTCScreening Recap:

Last night at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, Atlantic Records singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ty Dolla $ign presented his Free TC mini-documentary, chronicling the journey of his brother, Gabriel “TC” Griffin’s wrongful imprisonment, to industry tastemakers, artists, celebrities, and activists. Beginning with a red carpet and mixer, the main event began as guests filled into the Chaplin Theater and Ty welcomed everyone to the screening. Following the fifteen minute documentary, which was directed by Daniel Kaufman, Ty joined five other panelists in a discussion led by 92.3’s Big Boy. Both the film and discussion were eye opening for many in attendance, which accomplished Ty’s goal of raising awareness and support for the wrongfully imprisoned. Moving forward, Ty hopes to continue to bring light to how wrongful imprisonment occurs, and what we can all do to help prevent innocent people from going behind bars.

The insightful panel included a range of people who have all experienced incidents with wrongful conviction in one way, shape, or form. They included Ty Dolla $ign, who is currently fighting to get his brother out of prison under a wrongful conviction appeal; Marcus “Big Ship” Bell of My Anti Gang, who teaches the Gang Life to New Life program and as a former gang member himself, helps those involved in gang activity see a better future; Sabra Williams, Founder of The Actors Gang Prison Project, which teaches inmates the power that the Arts have to affect social and inner transformation, and she also oversees programs targeting at-risk youth and current gang members; James Anderson of Anti-Recidivism Coalition, which provides a support and advocacy network for former inmates; Obie Anthony, who served 17 years for a murder he did not commit before being found wrongfully convicted and whose exoneration was supported by volunteer attorneys and the Northern California Innocence Project; and Michael De La Rocha of Revolve Impact, who spearheaded Artists for 47, a coalition assembled to pass California’s historic Prop 47 that affected more than one million Californians, and currently advises members of Congress and other state and locally elected officials on criminal justice issues.

Celebrities and other notable guests who came out to support the cause included: Big Boy (92.3), BJ the Chicago Kid (artist), Julie Chang (FOX 11), Christine Divine (FOX 11), Mdot Taylor (artist), V.I. (artist), Moniece Slaughter (reality star, Love and Hip Hop Hollywood), DJ Kiss (celebrity deejay), Jay 305 (artist), DJ Carisma (celebrity deejay), AngelGold (artist/Ty’s sister), Ty’s mother, DJ Hed (92.3), Lil Will (artist), Raven Felix (T GOD Label Mate), and more.

Sponsors for the evening included: Beats By Dre, St. Petersburg Vodka, and DJ Kiss.
