Dirk Nowitzki Foundation’s Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic

This past Sunday future Hall of Famer and member of The Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzki, had an all-star cast come out in support of his  Foundation’s Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic . Some of the celebrities that participated in this past weekends event were; the former US Open Champion Andy Roddick, former number 1 in doubles Mark Knowles,   John Isner currently ranked 25th in the world in singles play.  In addition, other notable celebrities, who came to show their support  were; actors Ben Stiller, Boris Kodjoe;  NBA Stars JJ Barea & Harrison Barnes, Former AP Pro David Martin, Coach Phillip Famer, Benjamin Becker and Mitchell Krueger.

When asked why Dirk chose a Pro-Celebrity Tennis tournament for his inaugural Foundation Event he responded “Tennis is my first love and I have been playing since was four or five years old”

During an interview after one of his matches Andy Roddick  “I have so much respect for Dirk, “Obviously, he’s one of the greatest NBA players of all time, but to see how he’s given back to the community that’s supported him for so long and changed the trajectory of kids’ lives, I have nothing but respect.

Ben Stiller was asked how he was contacted  to participate in this tennis event “I got a direct message on Twitter from Dirk, which was rather inappropriate actually,” Stiller said with a laugh. “Dirk follows me and I started playing tennis at 45, which I recommend to anyone.”

In the finals of the inaugural Dirk Nowitzki, Pro Celebrity Tennis Classic held on Sunday (Sept. 18) at the SMU Tennis Center in Dallas, the doubles team of Andy Roddick and Tanya McKinney defeated actor Boris Kodjoe and restaurateur Alberto Lombardi 10-6 to win the inaugural championship.
