Live Session: J yOung talks his role in upcoming Tupac biopic, new music and more

Rapper, actor, dancer, producer J yOung nee Jermaine Carter (@JYoungMDK) exploded onto the Hip Hop scene at a very young age with an impromptu yet epic on-air battle with Philly vet Cassidy and the stage was set for a star to be born.

Proving himself as more than just a rapper and gifted lyricist, J Young began supporting his natural acting talents with cameos in “Stomp the Yard”, “Preacher’s Kid”, “Van Wilder 3”, and lead role in the HBO series The ‘A’, a movie loosely based on his life thus far.

Carter has also been featured in several popular films such as Barbershop II, Captain America and the upcoming highly anticipated Tupac biopic entitled All Eyez On Me. In the All Eyez On Me: Tupac Biopic, J Young portrays Tupac’s confidant and “Outlawz” front man, Hussein Fatal.

His latest joint “PacBig” is a shining example of why this young dude has what it takes to help keep real Hip Hop on point:

A multi-tiered threat, he’s also utilized his gift-of-gab flexing his hosting skills interviewing hot celebrities like Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Nelly and Jim Jones on countless Cheddar DVDs. Earning ‘Freestyle Champion’ for Roc the Mic tours, opening for major acts such as Twista and Young Jeezy, and an infinite number of mix tapes (one of which features a heated rap battle between J Young and Philadelphia’s own Cassidy) behind him, this self-proclaimed ‘renaissance man of entertainment’ is circulating more buzz than ever.

His first BIG break

J yOung battled the inimitable Philly rapper Cassidy in 2006 at the age of 16 live on the radio, more than holding his own with one of the most talked about rappers to rock the battle scene. Witnessing the famous exchange was the one and only Swizz Beats who was also on the phone line. According to Swizz, he was sitting right next to Cassidy during what turned into an amazing showcase for J yOung as he exchanged bars with the celebrated veteran. This controversial battle earned him the much-deserved title of Emcee…joining an elite group of rappers from across the Hip Hop community world wide.

J yOung sat down with The Hype Magazine to talk about the upcoming Tupac biopic, his new music projects and what’s coming for him on the silver screen and much more…tune in!
