Live Session: The Social Club Misfits talk new album “The Misadventures of Fern and Marty”

I first met the Social Club Misfits (@SocialClubMSFTS) via their music back in April of this year as we premiered their video “Courage” from the EP The Misfit Generation which peaked at number eight on the Billboard Rap Charts. Back then, the duo were just breaking out of the underground and catching hold with their unique blend of sonics and lyrics which combine humor, emotion and very relevant messages of inspiration.

Today, the duo of Fern and Marty are in a label situation with Capitol Records (CMG) and their debut album on the label “The Misadventures of Fern and Marty” drops Friday January 13. The project is chock full of goodness (ok that was corny) and I had a great time listening to the album in advance! Fair warning, if you don’t like great, timeless music…this album isn’t for you. Overall rating of the project: 4/5 for originality, lyrics, production and sonics.

In our interview, both Fern and Marty got beyond the music as well, discussing the new industry trend of making music that is family friendly and fun; as well as their new emoji app which as we all know, is now a major part of communication on social media and texts.

The most important “take away” of our conversation, outside of staying grounded, is their message to upcoming artists “…handle your business.”

Lastly, if you are already up on this crew, you’ll definitely want to catch their upcoming “Misadventures” Tour which kicks off February 17th in Jacksonville, FL. If you aren’t up on them, I’d say it’s worth the price of a ticket to witness these cats live and uncut!

Listen in to our conversation below!

Here’s the official line on Social Club Misfits and their new album and business venture

Miami hip-hop duo Social Club Misfits are excited to announce their new album The Misadventures of Fern & Marty, will be released via Capitol CMG on January 13, 2017. Featuring production by Wit and 42 North, Ruslan, Amari and Ray Rock fans will experience everything from soul, trap, island and more as well as includes appearances by Andy Mineo, Chris Batson, and Tree Giants. The new album became available for pre-order today November 18 via the website. Additionally, on that same day, the lead single “Pop Out Revenge” (Click Here to Listen) is available on iTunesGoogle Play, and Amazon along with the accompanying video premiering on the Social Club Misfits site (CLICK HERE).

The album is a combination of styles and influences from our city and cultures, which makes this album very eclectic,” states Marty.  “We live in Florida and it is so diverse, there are so many cultures and backgrounds. We wanted to capture that.”

Known for their provocative oeuvre and singular, quick-witted approach to music, The Misadventures of Fern & Marty will continue to push boundaries and redefine the possibilities of their music.

“’The Misadventures of Fern & Marty’ could best be described as the journey every person has becoming an adult,” states Fern. “This is an album about life…it’s the good, the bad and it’s real. We continue to use humor and emotion, with every song having an underlining message.”

The duo’s most recent EP The Misfit Generation peaked at number eight on the Billboard Rap Charts and the duo plans on keeping a winning formula with the release of this new album

Accompanying the new album, Social Club Misfits will be releasing a new “Misfits Emoji” app in support of the album. The app features 47 custom SCM themed emojis and several gifs. Available in the app store for $0.99, fans will be able to download and add the Misfit Emojis to the emoji library on their smartphone or tablet’s keyboard and share them with their friends.

Comprised of MCs Marty and Fern, Social Club Misfits have released several projects including the Billboard-charting full lengths Misfits 2US, and Social Club Misfits.  Social Club is the after-effect of two distinctive personalities meshing to create an invigorating sound. The self-monikered “Misfits” are disruptors in every sense, challenging norms and bringing other misfits along for the ride.
