Olympian Summer Sanders Goes on Spring Break

Spring break is that crucial time of year when we get a week to ourselves to unplug. It is a good time to have an adventure with family and reconnect by discovering a vacation full of activities that everyone can enjoy. Whether your family loves exciting water rides or relaxing while floating down a river stream, it is time to get everyone together and have a family adventure. But how can you entertain everyone in one trip? From kids to grandparents, the challenge is to find an activity that everyone can enjoy. That is why Gold Medalist Summer Sanders sits down with The Hype magazine to discuss finding a destination that meets everyone’s needs.

Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in the Pocono Mountains is the Largest Indoor Waterpark in America. It has 220,000 square feet of wet and wild fun and is home to award winning attractions like “The Arena,” a new virtual reality experience for teens and adults. It also features activities such as “Spa Kalahari and Salon,” Family Entertainment Centers, a variety of premium onsite dining options, ropes courses and much more. So, take a road trip this spring break and head to the Kalahari Resorts for a memorable time with family, fun and entertainment.

It’s been a hard winter for most of us. With spring break on everyone’s minds, how do we plan a getaway that goes beyond the typical expectations?

Vacation is one of my favorite words, so I’m right there with everyone! I can’t wait for spring break. I think what families are looking for is that above and beyond. Something exciting, adventurous or one of a kind. So, Im here at the Pocono Mountains at the Kalahari Resorts and behind me is America’s largest indoor waterpark resort. So, I’d say that is above and beyond!  It is 220,000 square feet and they’ve got new slides and new adventures. On every part of it, there is an element to please someone. There is a water slide that is out called “Screaming Hyena,” I’m not sure if that is for me, but I know that it is for my daughter. So, I love that fact that Kalahari Resorts gives families the options between adventurous moments that create memories that last a life time.

You say family vacations are more important than ever – why? And, what makes a great vacation?

Well because of spring time and distractions! You probably think I’m talking about my kids right? But I put this on parents too! I put them right under that bus. I think we are connected to our phones, our computers and work. I get it! I’m the same way! I think we all need to disconnect to reconnect as a family. We do have to schedule that, and it’s all there for you. Your kids are out of school, you have a week – what are you going to do with it and how are you going to create these memories? I love the fact that if you are close to the Poconos, there is another water park in Sandusky, Ohio. If you are within the road trip range, I mean, I live in Utah and I’ll drive ten hours to California. When you start a road trip that is when the vacation begins. You start signing these old school road trip songs. I used to be in a Jeep Wagoneer, that was out road trip car when I was younger. I feel like when you create those memories in the car, those are some of the best memories of all.

When you and your family are planning a vacation, what do you look for in a destination?

Adventure! My family is not one to sit around. In fact, if I look back, I was planning a spring break vacation in 2013. I knew I was going to run the Boston marathon and then we were going to go on spring break together. I literally put into the computer, Hotels with waterslides because I love the water; I love the adventure. I’ll even include hiking and other activities, but I like that fact that once you pull up to a place like Kalahari Resorts, you say goodbye to your car. Then everything is under one roof! You don’t have to plan too much once you get here. The planning has already been done. Now it’s time to enjoy each other and enjoy the trip! For more information, go to kalarhariresorts.com.

Summer, what’s up next for you?

I still have my show on CBS Sports called “We Need To Talk” an all-female sports talk show. With everything that is going on in sports right now between the Basketball tournament and NFL Combine, we will have a lot to talk about when we come back from hiatus in April!
