Fox TV’s ‘Shots Fired’ is THE trending topic during viewing events on TWO coasts

This past Wednesday, Fox TV Special Event Series “Shots Fired,” (@ShotsFiredFOX) (@ParagonFilmMusicontinued its triumphant run to glory as “Must Watch TV” evidenced by its status as a trending social media topic during BOTH its viewing events beginning in New York and concluding in Los Angeles. Angelinos received a special treat, as legendary singers Ruff Endz hit the stage live to debut their Shots Fired single “Speak To My Heart” which was the featured song in last night’s episode. “Speak To My Heart” is also the lead single for the upcoming series soundtrack and was the platform for the musical reunion of the duo; David “Davinch” Chance and Dante “Chi” Jordan.

Here’s the official line on the Fox TV limited series

“Shots Fired” is from Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Beyond the Lights,” “The Secret Life of Bees,” “Love & Basketball”) and Reggie Rock Bythewood (“Notorious,” “New York Undercover,” “Get on the Bus”). SHOTS FIRED is a 10-hour event series that examines the dangerous aftermath of two racially charged shootings in a small Southern town, providing an explosive autopsy of our criminal justice system.

The music team for “Shots Fired” led by veteran music supervisors, Jabari Ali and John Houlihan masterfully deliver tension, relief, and reality emphasis. Stacy-Ann Ellis (@stassi_x) did a “Must Read” piece on the series and its music team published on Vibe.com (March 30, 2017).

“The soundscapes we hear as we watch Shots Fired were carefully curated by music supervisor Jabari Ali, the man also behind the licensed, new and original music for Training Day, Brooklyn’s Finest, Waist Deep, Biker Boyz and many others. Ali pulled together a team of top-notch writers, producers, and artists, some of whom include BJ the Chicago Kid, Antonique Smith, the Hamiltones, Ruff Endz, Sunshine Anderson, Heather Victoria, Katlyn Nichol, Big Bill Morganfield and more.” (S. Ellis/vibe.com)

I just like the way she put that…”Soundscapes” because it perfectly describes the magic created by this award-nominated and winning team. Emmy consideration has just  begun, and this music team plays a vital part in the impact of the show. Fox will host a “For Your Consideration” event May 10, 2017, for members of the Television Academy; my bet is we see them on the ballot.

More than just stories, Shots fired as a collective series isn’t about color struggle exclusively both the cop and prosecutor are of the same race. It’s the fight between Right and Wrong and in this series, a difference of opinion about what that means exactly. Aside from the daily life struggles each character plays, the added pressure of keeping a community together and getting not just a conviction but justice could bust a cast iron pipe.

The series is created and executive-produced by Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood. Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo also serve as executive producers.

I close with a shout out to 20th Century Fox Television, which produces Shots Fired, in association with Imagine Television and Undisputed Cinema; this was a courageous series and exceptionally well presented. With only 3 hours left in the current 10-hour special event series, I dare submit they still have so much left to say and season 2 is potentially an even larger solution based conversation starter…#ShotsFired ~ JD
