ASAP Mob Worldwide
“We wanted to become big, stated Yam$ in the New York Times during a 2013 interview, “but we didn’t want to do it by hopping on somebody else’s wave. We wanted to come in the game with our own wave.”
Asap Mob the New York collective was formed in 2006 by Asap Yam$ and Asap Bari. Asap Mob is Harlem’s hipster machine gun funk. The mob has been busy this summer as Asap Ferg and Asap Rocky highlight the visual for “Wrong” depicting a spiritual resurgence. The Mob innovates in fashion, art, and music as a reflection of Harlem. Asap Yam$ created a syndicate destined for greatness. The combination of producers and edgy lyrics spawned a cultural shift in New York rap.
Asap Rocky recently dropped the single, “RAF” in anticipation of his third studio album. As the Mob’s imprint and resident emcees Ferg and Rocky demonstrate patented “purple swagger” in introducing new music. On Traplord Tuesday, Ferg released his new single, “Plain Jane” via the Furious Ferg EP. He has a formula for hard work , including a fashion line with the moniker Traplord, and a new album Still Striving, that features Remy Ma, on popular song, “East Coast.” While Asap Bari dabbles in design with a VLONE x Nike collaboration on the Air Force One High, expected to release later this year. VLONE as a brand has moved from a vision to a fashionista staple. Asap Mob are trendsetters merging genres, and bringing Harlem’s street style to the forefront.
The fallout between in-house producer SpaceGhostPurpp and Asap Rocky left an opening for beat production from Asap Tyy Beats and Asap P On Da Boardz. Asap Twelvvy resurrects the classic New York hip hop vibes. At the same time, Asap Tyy has been pulling out 4-wheeler, ATV’s, and motorbikes all summer. Simultaneously dominating the Ave. His debut mix-tape “Best Kept Secret” was an underground sensation on the East Coast. The culmination of the crew is slotted as the Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends sequel. Expect appearances from all members including Asap Na$t, who spit grime into the Mob’s single, “Trillmatic” featuring Method Man.
Last week a new Kanye West project was leaked containing Asap Rocky assisted track, “Euro (Switch Hands).” The hype died within a few days as West invested in damage control from the hills of Wyoming. Dubbed Pretty Flacko, Asap was rumored to turn down a spot on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” to quietly continue dating Kendall Jenner. Flacko has silently dated numerous famous women from models to musicians including Rhianna and Iggy Azalea.
The Mob gravitates to a New York State of Mind. The Asap Mob ushered in a new renaissance incorporating 90’s era hip hop aside Southern rituals, and East Coast bravado. The collective has adapted to the economic growth of the Harlem borough, within uptown Manhattan, to become a global phenomena, introducing pop-up shops and tours worldwide. Long Live A$AP.
