Who Is DJ Murci?
DJ Murci has always been musically gifted. From a young age, she was singing, performing, and playing a variety of instruments. There are many ways to describe DJ Murci, but unique, talented, and charismatic just seem to scratch the surface. However, there is one word that ties them all together and is true to their character: DJ Murci is Real. Few people sing so honestly from their heart and soul. DJ Murci does so in just the right way, combining art, story, and song in perfect unison.
From the outside looking in, who is DJ Murci?
DJ Murci is mysterious, spontaneous, and unique. She can either come out with an early soul song, contemporary R&B jazz, or a pop bop in the spare of the moment. Her voice is sultry and cold (or warm) to better let the listener feel the story that goes along with the lyrics. She writes her own lyrics so her listeners can see inside her head to create a more intimate connection with the audience.
What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?
I started writing songs when I was about 7 years old, and I partook in playing instruments as well. I never really knew why I wrote, but it was the only way for me to express myself. I was a very timid child, and I was kind of lonely in my early years and singled out because I was the only black girl in my school. I, then, wold always try to rap the pain away and it worked for the most part, but I guess not well enough because when I was 11 I was lonelier than ever. I attempted suicide. It didn’t work obviously, but after that happened I gained a new perspective on life. I thought I had no purpose, then I realized I was born to write. When I started developing my singing voic, I performed at church and saw what I did in performance that captivated the audience and carried that over into my studio sound. I said I’ve got to stop keeping this to myself and let other people in, not everyone is going to hurt me. Now I’m pushing to be the new face of a genre no one has heard of: Dark Soul.
What do you want people get from your music?
I want people to get not only lyrical satisfaction, but an intimate connection with me. I want people halfway across the globe to connect with me on an emotional level by just hearing my music, or watching me perform.
Tell us about your current project.
My current project W R S T B H V R gives people a look on what is to come for me in the future, whether it be rapping, producing, singing, etc.
For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?
Definitely W R S T B H V R because there is a lot more of that sound to come in the future.
Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…
I’m a high school student. Nothing interesting there but, I work in the studio at our school as an audio engineer, hoping to make that my career someday. I don’t record at that studio though, I record at home.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…
One time, me and my friends went to the beach and there was this group of guys who were probably white girl wasted. They were playing volleyball half tipped over and laughing when there wasn’t anything funny. I was really confused and then they tried to talk to us, but we gave them a quick curve.
