Nick Cannon’s “King of the Dancehall” now streaming on YouTube Red

Following its debut last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, King of the Dancehall, produced by Nick Cannon’s NCREDIBLE Productions, will make its debut on YouTube Red tomorrow, August 2 on Russell Simmons’s All Def Digital channel.

Cannon – who serves as writer, director and executive producer – stars in this Jamaican dancehall drama alongside Academy® Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg (“The View”), multi-platinum selling rapper Busta Rhymes, newcomer Kimberly Patterson, actress Kreesha Turner, and Academy® and Emmy® Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr.

In KING OF THE DANCEHALL, the Brooklyn-born hero (played by Cannon) heads to Jamaica to start a new chapter after a major setback forces him to quickly leave town. He falls for a local girl in Kingston who introduces him to dancehall culture, and soon discovers a newfound passion for dance. As he works towards rebuilding his life and winning a prestigious contest, his past decisions and a powerful underworld threaten to undermine his journey towards redemption.

With an infectious soundtrack featuring Grammy® Award-winning recording artist, Beenie Man, YouTube Red’s King of the Dancehall is an exhilarating ode to “Dancehall,” — the Jamaican musical force that’s shaken dance floors all around the world and influenced artists throughout the decades.

King of the Dancehall follows Tarzan (Nick Cannon) as he hatches a plan to cover the costs of medical care for his ailing mother (Whoopi Goldberg). To do this, he moves from his native New York to Kingston, Jamaica and enlists the help of his fast-talking cousin (Busta Rhymes). But there’s another, much tougher scene that he’s not prepared for: the dancehall. Lost amidst the bouncing bodies and grinding hips, Tarzan meets Maya (Kimberly Patterson), but when another woman enters the picture, Tarzan is faced with the romantic decision of his life, and a choice between two very different lifestyles.
