Indie Spotlight: Korey Green
Director Korey Green, whose award winning film “The Romans” recently enjoyed its release, is currently working on a documentary entitled “The Blackness Project”. Korey first came to my attention when we were both nominated for a “best director” award at a local film festival, with Mr. Green taking home the win.
Korey Green was born and raised on the East Side of Buffalo, New York. Growing up in the inner city of a dying urban community wasn’t easy. In a neighborhood where most people chose the street life, which ultimately would lead to jail time or death, college was almost not an option. Following High School, Korey made the decision to continue his education at Alfred State College where he pursued his interest in Creative Writing.
The “Forgotten City” is Korey’s first project and the concept was birthed out of his experiences living in Buffalo. The film explores Green’s talents as not only a writer, but also as a director. Since completing “The Forgotten City Green” has soared in indie films directing over 10 short films and a host of music videos, commercials and a feature documentary “The Experience” which was shot in Ghana, West Africa. Currently, Green just completed feature narrative film “The Romans” as director and co-writer. Green has won numerous film awards, in New York, LA, Denver, Chicago, San Diego , American black film festival in Miami and the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival.
About The Blackness Project
“The Blackness Project” is a feature length documentary film about culture and race from the African American and other minority perspectives. The film was inspired from conversations about the “Whiteness Project” which is a similar documentary discussing race and the perceived loss of white privilege of white Americans. The main purpose of “The Blackness Project” film is to bridge the gap between white and black Americans with in depth interviews on race.
