Tia London: “A Name People Will Remember”

Let’s hop right into this new Twista single “It’s Yours”…Tell me about this particular collaborative track — How did it actually come to fruition?

(The Legendary) Traxster is a genius! He wanted to create something that didn’t sound like anything else right now. Twista, him and myself, have undeniable chemistry from our previous works; “2012,” “Thinking Bout It (Remix)” (and) “Ain’t Too Young Now,” so when I heard the beat the hook came to me! Twista heard it and it was a no-brainer.

Reflecting, how did you first discover your musical talent?

Music chose me! I honestly feel that way now looking back. Just how Basketball chose (Michael) Jordan (and/or) Art chose (Jean-Michel) Basquiat.

Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

I could name a million great artists, but I think life has inspired me the most. The crazy things I have experienced is the reason people are able to relate to the music, to the stories.

Where did your moniker originally derive from?

I wanted a name that had a special ring to it. A name people will remember.

How would you describe and/or define the style of music that you create and perform?

My music is its own thing. Its own genre. It’s incomparable.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don’t already have in other performers?

I think the whole singing/rapping thing is overdone nowadays. I was one of the first female artists doing it, now EVERYBODY bit it. It’s so many rappers singing now. My abilities in songwriting and the original stories, is what I bring that’s different. You can bite the style, but if the songs aren’t captivating it don’t matter.

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

No. It’s been all continued progress and growth since (my 2011 solo debut) Love Junkie.

What do you want people to get from your music?

I want them to never have to find the words to say for any emotion, because I’ll have a song to fit that mood that they can relate to. For them to never feel alone or like no one understands.

When can we, the masses, expect some new music from you?

With all ego aside, this next project is the best music me (and) @Traxster have created. It’s a musical experience. Should expect it this summer.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Aside from working with a Grammy (Award) nominated producer…Putting out two incredible projects. My most recent is “It’s Yours,” being played all around the country.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I think my fans would love a Drake/Tia London song. As far as deceased, Aaliyah. I would have loved to work with her and write for her.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Korea always show me so much love and I can’t wait to perform there. I look forward to performing overseas.

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

It’s a toss up between “Maybach Dreaming” and “Nothing On You.” I think they both describe who I am in my totality. Who I am, my aspirations in my music, where I’m from — It’s all there.

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention, that you would like to point out at this given time? And finally, do you have any closing thought(s) for our readers?
