BRITISH SONGSTRESS GABRIELLE APLIN TO RELEASE DEBUT U.S. ALBUM LIGHT UP THE DARK, SEPTEMBER 18

INSTANT GRAT TITLE TRACK “LIGHT UP THE DARK” AVAILABLE NOW

June 23, 2015 – Stunning U.K. chanteuse Gabrielle Aplin, who made her first waves stateside with last year’s English Rain EP, will be marking her official U.S. debut with the release of Light Up The Dark on September 18. The album follows her massive overseas success, where she’s enjoyed #1 chart positions in both the U.K. and Australia, as well as 1.5 million in sales of singles from her international releases. The new album features title track “Light Up The Dark,” mixed by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Florence + the Machine) and available now as an instant grat with a pre-order of the album, along with “Heavy Heart,” which will be available as an instant grat on June 24.

Written by Aplin alongside long-time writing partner Luke Potashnick, Light Up The Dark immediately showcases the singer and songwriter’s fresh Feist-meets-Cat Power style. Aplin drew inspiration largely from her longtime idol Joni Mitchell, along with elements from Feist’s 2007 album The Reminder. “Her voice is just here, right at the front, and everything sits around it perfectly,” said Aplin, adding, “I’ve also become much more comfortable writing songs about other people’s stories as well as my own, much of which is inspired by travelling and everything I’ve seen [in the past few years].”

That time spent touring the world has allowed Aplin to improve upon her natural musicianship, heightening her guitar and piano skills and incorporating new dimensions of songwriting borne from time spent with other musicians. Additional experimentations with different microphones, vintage equipment, and old synths, have combined to create the unique sound of Light Up The Dark.

A self-taught musician, Aplin has been writing and recording songs since she was 15, even starting her own label to release three U.K. EPs, all of which charted on iTunes. By the age of 19 she had her first #1 hit with “The Power of Love,” and she can now claim a staggering 63.5 million Spotify streams, 80 million YouTube views, and 1.5 million total single sales.
