0George Clinton passes Funk Torch to Kendrick Lamar
During a telephone conversation with the Funk Doctor himself George Clinton and The Hype Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jerry Doby, Clinton named Kendrick Lamar as the next torch bearer of the Funk. “Kendrick Lamar is the real deal, he’s special.” Clinton declared. He went on to weigh in on Pharrell Williams saying “He can do anything he wants to do” as regards being a creator of massive proportions.
At a recent Red Bull Music Academy Festival NYC address, Clinton talked about working with younger artists, and specifically Kendrick Lamar. Clinton is featured on Kendrick’s album, “To Pimp a Butterfly,” on the track “Wesley’s Theory.”
“You pay attention to the ones who are going to kick you out,” said George Clinton, the grandmaster of Parliament-Funkadelic. (Redbull.com)
The biggest name in Funk also went on to discuss the business of doing business in what else, the entertainment business. We talked his new joint with Kendrick Lamar, the video for which is being shot this weekend in Los Angeles and is blessed with Ice Cube as part of the production.
