Cavanaugh (Open Mike Eagle & Serengeti) share “Screen Play” video via NPR

NPR has shared a video for Cavanaugh’s “Screen Play,” the first single from Open Mike Eagle and Serengeti’s new group’s debut album, Time and Materials. The video, shot, directed and edited by Ryan Calavano, features the Cavanaugh maintenance team after a long day of work.

Though Serengeti and Mike Eagle have known each other for many years and went to Southern Illinois University together, Cavanaugh is their first fully collaborative project. It’s also the first album that Mike has produced in its entirety. Time and Materials, available for pre-order now digitally and in a limited edition cassette, features P.O.S., Hemlock Ernst (Sam Herring from Future Islands), and Busdriver.

Cavanaugh have also announced west coast and European tour dates. All dates below.

ABOUT CAVANAUGH:

In a new urban development on the far west side of Detroit, Florida, it’s mandated by a 5 to 4 city council vote that a new housing structure be erected that has both luxury condominium units available for private ownership and section 7 housing in the same building. Via separate entrances the Cavanaugh building services two very different populations. And though the lifestyles of the residents vary, each unit relies on the same system of pipes and wiring and are serviced by the same crew. Mike and Dave have a combined 14 years of experience in Cavanaugh maintenance. They usually work drunk, mumbling greetings to the residents, soaking up all the disdain that the higher and lower income inhabitants have for each other. They talk shit to each other all day. Complaining about their home lives, spinning passive aggressive tales where they pretend to be angrier, stronger, more expressive men.

Though Serengeti and Open Mike Eagle have known each other for many years and went to Southern Illinois University together, Cavanaugh is the first group that the two have collaborated on and it’s the first project Mike has produced in its entirety. Time and Materials features P.O.S., Hemlock Ernst, and Busdriver.
