Cut Chemist Announces Limited Vinyl Pressings of Funk Off Megamix

Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli) has announced a limited pressing of his Funk Off Megamix, a precursor to his upcoming solo album and follow-up to his classic mixes The Litmus Test and Sound Of The Police. Always the innovator, this time around he draws influences from French outfits Pacific 231 and Vox Populi! with a couple of guest spots from Edan and Mr. Lif (who both appeared on “Storm” off Cut’s debut solo album, The Audience Is Listening).

It also offers contributions from virtuosic drummer Deantoni Parks (The Mars Volta, Sade, Mechelle Ndegeocello), Mumbles (Aceyalone’s A Book of Human Language), Gone Beyond (S.E.V.A.) and Dntel (The Postal Service).

“I found a Vox Populi! and Pacific 231 record in Italy in 2004, sampled it and made the song ‘Storm,’” Cut explains. “I loved it so much because it was very cutting edge, kind of electro, but psychedelic and weird at the same time.”

After finding them on MySpace, Cut asked if he could use some of their material. They agreed and the result was Funk Off, a compilation of Vox Populi! and Pacific 231 songs he put out in 2014.

As sequel of sorts, Funk Off Mega Mix continues his love affair with French ethno-industrial music and is one step closer to Cut’s sophomore solo album.
