The Hype Magazine launches fan contest with 2015 Emmy finalist Take Back the Mic

The Hype Magazine is proud to host a fan contest featuring 2015 Emmy finalist Take Back the Mic: The World Cup of Hip Hop, powered by LA-based digital media company, amp.it.
The three-week contest, debuting on today, November 23 and running until December 14, poses the question: “Which acts from Season 1 of Take Back the Mic would you like to see highlighted in the new global Season?” Fans will earn points for watching and “amping” the Jamaican, Colombian and Brazilian artists’ music videos and profiles embedded on thehypemagazine.com.

“Amping” content allows fans to shout out the artists they love on Facebook and Twitter simultaneously, by clicking the “amp” button on the amp.it Media Player (A.M.P.).  The syndicated, embeddable player tallies points for fans and artists, enabling top scorers to compete on the Fan Chart, while their favorite artists rise up the Artist Chart. Fans and artists stand to win weekly rewards, like a $50 gift card, as well as an overall prize for top scorers — an iPod Touch for the winning fan and a PC loaded with cutting-edge music software for the winning artist. . Winners will also receive a video “shoutout” from Season 1 mentor, Grammy-winning legend, DJ Maseo from De La Soul.

Additionally, fans can share their own freestyle videos on @takebackthemic’s Instagram profile, competing to win the 15-Second Fan Freestyle Challenge. The fan freestyle with the most likes and comments on Instagram will automatically be entered into Season 2 of Take Back the Mic.

Once voting is over, artists are eligible to enter to compete in Season 2 of the show, which was a 2015 Emmy finalist in the category of Original Interactive Programming, but was beaten out by Taylor Swift. The upcoming season will expand the competition from 3 countries to 6 countries on 5 continents. Competing artists will collaborate with their fans to build a movement around their music in hopes of winning the 2016 World Cup of Hip Hop!
