Blackartel uncovers obscure fashion designers from around the world

blackartelBlackartel is a new Colombia-based fashion marketplace, showcasing international and independent designers, from Peru to Paris, for a new generation of fashion conscious online shoppers.

Blackartel was born through the shared interests of three friends; Sergio Torres, Nathan Eisenband and Sandra Silva, all world travelers from very different backgrounds, today based in the Colombian capital of Bogota.

The company aims to break down the traditional power structures of mainstream fashion, bringing small-scale and independent designers to an international stage.

“We put the spotlight on talented, yet underexposed clothing designers from across the globe,” says CEO and Co-Founder Sergio Torres.

The team at Blackartel sources designs worldwide, through their personal travel and exploration, and a network of connections in the fashion scene. The marketplace showcases designs from a range of new designers, such as Project Pieta, a self-proclaimed “impertinent and irreverent project,” conceived in the jails of Lima. Born through “hard life inspiration,” its designs celebrate independent and spontaneous fashion creations.

Paris-based La Brigade de l’Amour, on the other hand, produce clothing centered around the power of love. Its designs are minimalist and quintessentially European. La Brigade de l’Amour claims, “Love will rule the world.”

In 2015 e-commerce revenue in the U.S. hit $60 million. This is forecasted to hit $86.4 million in 2018, and the fashion industry is expected to contribute 17.2 percent of these sales. As global e-commerce figures continue to rise, Blackartel joins a growing industry of fashion platforms looking to promote independent artists in the face of large corporations.

“Today’s global world has homogenized some industries that were previously outlets for creativity and culture sharing; such as music and fashion,” reports Torres. As consumers explore a variety of alternative new offerings, small-scale design outlets, which tell a personal story are gaining popularity.

Speaking of the various emerging trends across the globe, Blackartel CEO and Founder Sergio Torres explains, “In France they go for simplistic designs, in Poland they like strong patterns, and in Japan they are much more fashion forward.”

Blackartel ships to customers in the U.S. and Latin America. In 2016, it has its sights set on developing this market to Europe, broadening its designs to include womenswear, and creating new mobile solution.

When asked about exciting trends in the fashion e-commerce space Sergio tells us, “Regarding e-Commerce trends, I am currently obsessed with made to measure clothing platforms and regarding fashion trends I am digging leather jackets.”
