0Review: 2x Grammy Award Nominee Marie Munroe ‘Can’t Go Back’
I’ve always said, “Ex’s STAY Ex” there’s no possible way I’m going back to something that drove me insane in the first place! Norway‘s Marie Munroe’s (@MunroeMarie) “Can’t Go Back” is a perfect vehicle for that slogan!
Quite possibly the next disruptive figure in music, this siren delivers a heart wrenching perspective on the inner turmoil that COULD make you give someone another chance even when you shouldn’t. In the end however, self preservation wins out in this story and she stays resolute…”Can’t Go Back.”
Overall rating: 5/5 Beautiful voice with dynamic harmonic and melodic partnerships throughout the piece…magnificently produced. The video presentation for the song is a striking presentation and I enjoyed not being overwhelmed with distractions. Munroes’s expressive eyes are pretty much all that’s needed in conjunction with this song.
Background:
The Norwegian multi- Grammy Award Nominee (Best Female, Best Composer) called Marie Munroe is soon to release her much-anticipated LP Under My Skin. Scandinavia’s answer to electro poppy Imogen Heap and Jessie Ware has already sold out the entire upcoming tour in her home country, and has just shared the official video to her latest single Can’t Go Back.
The Manchester-based director Layla Sailor (http://www.laylasailor.com/) had an idea for the video from the moment she heard the song. In her own words she explains:
“I think when I got the brief I loved the song instantly– it’s so simple and emotive and my first thoughts were not to overcrowd the video with imagery, just keep it modest and unpretentious! My video work is either very colourful and stylized or very pared down and natural, and I wanted to merge the two.
I wanted to create melting Norwegian dreamscapes with spacey, surreal textures to intersperse with the forwardness of Marie singing. I worked with the cameraman James Monaghan who uses motion control in his work and together we planned the camera movements so that they would shift and spin throughout the film.
Charlie Murray did the makeup and hair and Sandija Sadowska was the stylist, their brief from me was to match the pink colours of the set so it was very stylized, yet still keep Marie’s own look. She has a really cool style that is feminine with a tough/hip edge, and I really didn’t want to lose that in all the pink. It’s my favourite video to date because of its restraint! Oh and I love the song very much!”
More info about Marie’s upcoming new music coming very soon, but for now enjoy the video shot in Manchester, sing along to the track, aaand let us know if you’ll notice that little funny hair detail somewhere within the first minuteJ
