Review: King Shabazz ‘Black King’

I just caught wind of this young artist King Shabazz and his new single Black King. I have to admit, when the music first started, the only thing that kept me tuned was the title and my curiosity about what he might have to say. The joint was done in honor of Black History Month and so gets an extra few barz out of respect. I’m glad I did…I learned something and that made the time well worth spending. I was introduced to someone of whom I’d never heard, Mansa Musa a King of Mali was one of the richest Emperors in history with a projected worth of around 400 billion dollars…

Somehow, despite the technical faults with the levels and mix, I found my head nodding along, but also looking more intently at the lyrical video waiting for what might come next. That created the drama, and music should have drama. Next thing I know, I’ve listened to this darn song about 10 times and SOMEHOW digging’ it…

Production wise, I think I understand where Nebula the producer is trying to go and I could hear somebody like ReyReel or 88 Fingaz giving it that full bodied sound and guide him on how to rock that joint correctly.

That’s my opinion which don’t mean a thing! We want to know if you get caught up as well…be honest, leave a comment.

Background

In honor of February Black History Month, King Shabazz, also known as “The Hip Hop Traveler,” recently dropped his new single Black King for Black History Month. The hip hop artist is originally from the United States but currently lives in the UK pursuing his passion for all things entertaining, music and fitness.

His new single “Black King” features an honorable yet uplifting message over a captivating hip hop beat. The protruding lyrics do well to raise the spirits of listeners as it describes the often unappreciated yet quintessential black male. “Black King” is original and inspires, not just black men and women, but everyone to love the black man for who is and remove the stigma and stereotypes.
