Comedy, Gigs And Art: New York’s Hidden Scene of Free Events

In the city that never sleeps, the iconic Big Apple, the cultural scene is like no other. A melting pot of diversity and rising talent, the city has something for everyone.

From the East Village bars that stay open through the night to the new movements celebrating a whole range of arts and culture, the concrete jungle boasts a veritable treasure trove of choice, making it one of the greatest places in the world to explore.

That said, discovery is a challenge, and saving your pennies can be almost impossible.

The cost of living in New York City is 68.8 percent higher than the U.S. national average. However, what many people may not know is that New York’s social scene offers a great deal of free activities; concerts, comedy shows, fitness classes, workshops and more. The trick is finding these events.

New social platform Free Event Finder helps people to find these events, letting individuals post events and activities to share with the community. New Yorkers can search the platform which has thousands of events that have been verified by the team, and they don’t cost a cent.

Event listings on Free Event Finder include time and location, and description. The tool is great for people who want to explore the city and discover new places. Users can search from thousands of events by selecting their location in the city, specifying keywords, and dates, or they can browse through top postings for that day, week or weekend.

This weekend The B Group is hosting an open house inviting models, actors and musicians to participate in its upcoming print editorial. Empowered Hypnosis Wellness Centers is offering a free 30 minute trial hypnosis session. And NYC’s best up-and-coming comics will hit up East Village – with free shows at Solas and Niagara.

Free Event Finder was created by digital nomads – husband and wife team Martin and Junky Hunter. After quitting their jobs, selling their belongings and hitting the road they traveled across 13 countries in Asia, over the course of 5 years, founding the platforms on their travels.

“One year turned into five years. We lived off dollars a day in South-East Asia and at the same time we were able to create a tool to ease the purse strings of New Yorkers too,” said Martin.

Free Event Finder will soon expand to major cities across nation – however with New York’s rocketing lifestyle costs and the dizzying amounts of free activities it is a great place to start. With New Yorkers on average spending a third of their paychecks on rent and easily blowing the rest on club entry, a mocha latte or a Mai Tai, a way to explore the city without spending even more cash comes as a welcome relief.
