Product Review: Crown headphones by Plugged Inc
I recently received a set of Crown headphones by Plugged Inc. (@pluggedinc) to review for The Hype Magazine. Plugged Inc., is a start up company launched by audiophile and serial entrepreneur Imran Patel.
I, like most people who love music, am always in search of the ultimate listening adventure. Audiophiles will have some sort of rack with separate components and of course killer speakers in their homes. They will also often have a collection of over the ear and in-ear headphones. My collection mostly surrounds over the ear units.
Crown headphones by Plugged Inc. offer rugged durability and solid construction similar to the Pelican brand of cases. They feature lightweight comfortable cups, the likes found on other high-end headphones with those very high-end price tags. An attractive special feature of the Crown headphones are the separate iOS and Android optimized cables, I also was impressed with the fact there are jacks in both headphones for “ambidextrous” listeners.
I compared my demo set of Crown headphones with my Sennheiser, Beats, Bose and Harman Kardon over the ear sets and it matched or exceeded the noise reduction qualities of all of them. Sonically, the units held their own against the others at various sound levels and equalizations although, Beats won out on the bottom bass. I did not experience any high-end distortion on my set.
To experience all that I could from the Crown headphones, I put them through their paces with a wide variety of music ranging from Hip-Hop to Dubstep and everything in between including jazz pieces. Crown delivered like a $500 set of headphones but only carry a price tag of $99 retail. HOW they delivered this superior caliber product for that consumer price point, I have no idea…
Overall rating: 5/5 this $99 set of headphones met or exceeded the sonic delivery of headphones 4 and 5 times their cost.
Here was my musical test base of songs:
