The Go DJ Awards, Houston’s largest music awards show, announced today that it will honor Mayor Sylvester Turner for his contributions in politics and business. A highly decorated public official, longtime legislator and Harvard Law alumnus, Mayor Turner has previously received the Legislative Leadership Award from AARP and the Hero Award from the NAACP of Texas.

“It is an honor to pay tribute to Mayor Turner,” said Velma Trayham, founder of ThinkZILLA PR & Consulting Group. “He is a prolific leader who has left an indelible mark not only on the city of Houston, but the entire State of Texas. He has already established a tremendous legacy, and we know that he will continue to champion our communities, create even more opportunities and solidify a bright future for all of his constituents.”

Also being honored at this year’s Go DJ Awards are Ron Jemison Jr., president of Franklin Beauty School, Rap-a- lot founder and CEO James Prince Senior, Isiah Carey, Emmy Award-winning FOX 26 reporter and Jeffrey L. Boney, award-winning editor of the Houston Forward Times and media trailblazer.

Having recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Franklin Beauty School, President Ron Jemison Jr. is responsible for not only one of the nation’s most prestigious schools for cosmetology and beauty culture arts, but a long and rich heritage of entrepreneurship. The family-owned business, which was featured in OWN Network’s docuseries “Houston Beauty,” offers a comprehensive education, with one of the highest first-time pass ratios for the state board examination.

Boasting nearly 30 years of broadcasting industry experience, Isiah Carey is an Emmy Award-winning television journalist for KRIV-TV FOX 26 News, founder and publisher of the popular blog Isiah Factor and host of both “Isiah Factor” and “Isiah Factor Uncensored,” also on FOX. In 2009, he was honored by the City of Houston with his very own day for his contributions to the local community. He’s also appeared on numerous nationally broadcast and syndicated programs including ABC’s “Blackish,” “20/20,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and more.

Jeffrey L. Boney is a media trailblazer who has earned recognition for his contributions to journalism, including print, television and radio. He masterfully juggles his roles as host of “Real Talk with Jeffrey L. Boney” on KJOZ 880 Radio, associate editor of the Houston Forward Times and frequent contributor on CNN Headline News’ (HLN) top-rated and nationally-recognized “Nancy Grace” show. Additionally, as founder and chief executive officer of the Texas Business Alliance, Boney helps small businesses operate and grow more efficiently through education, financing and other initiatives.

James Prince Senior (also referred to as J. Prince) is the CEO of Rap-a-Lot Records and boxing manager to top sports talent to include previously working with Floyd Mayweather. With 20 plus years and counting he’s worked to promote Houston’s rap scene and rap artist and is now making a difference all over the world through humanitarian initiative, working to promote underprivileged neighborhoods and communities.
