“Panda” RIAA Certified Gold & Platinum

It is no secret that “Panda” is a song that has swept the nation. Everyone has a Remix. Everyone has a Cover. The song has done Numbers and Desiigner is owning the Summer Season thus far.

When 22-year-old Manchester producer Menace sold a “Meek Mill/Ace Hood/Wale Type Beat” called “Maniac” to Brooklyn teenager Desiigner, he had a feeling the resulting song, “Panda,” would become a hit someday. “The track itself had so much energy,” Menace told XXL in an interview. “I told [Desiigner] this was going to be something big, it’s going to get him signed; it’s going to get me signed. The production and the flow of his lyrics went well together.” Today, the RIAA certified the Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit asPlatinum, cementing Menace as one of the hottest young producers in the game. The 22 year-old spent 10 years honing his craft before finding his production co-opted on Kanye West‘s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2,” changing his life. “Every 10 minutes I get emails asking if I can make a beat similar to ‘Panda,’ explained Menace to XXL. “Since January, I’m just looking at it all.” Earlier this week, Menace signed a publishing deal with Tim Blacksmith‘s Stellar Songs, who also works with Sam Smith, Emili Sandé, Keizer, Labyrinth, Fetty Wap, and many more.

Says Menace about the song going platinum, “It’s amazing and shows people that you do anything if you’re in the right place at the right time, with fate on your side. Desiigner and I didn’t have the backing of a record label when we made the song. You, too, can make a hit on your own. I’m just excited now to be working harder than ever. Since I just signed a publishing deal, they’ll be setting up studio sessions with everyone and I can’t wait to get to start working on new projects.”

He worked as a mobile phone repairman while churning out tune after tune, posting new beats made from scratch to YouTube every two to three days. “My strengths are that I can make a beat within an hour or so… I work fast,” the beatmaker explains. “My production reflects The Joker and DC Comics—those type of characters. I make it really gritty sounding. On my YouTube page, I normally place Joker on my videos because my music reflects that type of character,” he told Genius in an interview, adding, “I can make R&B, club, dance, hip-hop, but this is my signature sound. Like Scott Storch is known for the synth bands, the Arabic strings. I want to be known for this type of sound. Gritty and gory.”

Following his newfound international success, Menace has been blowing up the Manchester music scene – making it into his hometown newspaper and hearing “Panda” constantly blasting from people’s cars and homes. With the attention of hip-hop giants, critical praise from the likes of XXL, Red Bull, and FACT Mag, along with his Stellar Songs publishing deal on lock, Menace is ready to take his career to the next level.
