Google Play shares its ‘Top Music Playlists’ of 2016

Google Play (@GooglePlay) shared its 2016 top music lists, which didn’t hold many surprises, but did introduce some new names and projects not on our radar until now. We pundits give dissertations on why an album is important and why it’s the hottest thing smoking, but the most definitive salute is the engagement from avid music fans and consumers.

Current 2016 standings according to Google Play

Drake’s “Views” stands at #1 on the album chart, with Kevin Gates and Rihanna at #2 and #3 respectively. Kendrick Lamar is also in the top 5 on this all-star list, holding it down at #4.

In the #1 spot for top songs, is Rihanna’s “Work” Ft. Drake…like I said, no surprise. This song has captured both men and women across the globe.

A new introduction to me on this list, is the crew Twenty One Pilots and their joint “Stressed Out.” Released in 2015, “Stressed Out” holds the #1 spot for most streamed thus far in 2016. I don’t care WHAT year this joint dropped…it’s flat out dope and the video for the single has over 403.7 million views…that’s a movement! Justin Bieber holds both the #2 and #3 slots with “Sorry” and “Love Yourself.”

Check out the lists Google Play compiled of the hottest albums and singles, plus who’s killing the game musically in the digital space, based on actual consumer data.

Google Play, the online destination for books, movies, music, games, apps and more, has just released the most popular picks with consumers across several categories in 2016…so far.

From January 1-June 1, 2016, here are the most popular music lists on Google Play:
