Who is radios #1 ‘Most Added Indie’ break out crooner Shade Jenifer?

Just last year R&B breakout singer and song writer, SHADE JENNIFER (@shadejenifer) (there’s only one “n”), was just your average 18 year old studying engineering, partying, playing football, chasing and getting chased down by the girls. Like most teens in the DC Metro area, he was tuned into DJ Young Music’s prime time mix show on powerhouse radio station WPGC – 95.5 FM, where Young Music is popular for breaking local artists through his “twitter tag local artists competition.” The winner of the most tags/tweets wins airplay! Urged by his friends to join in the interactive talent search, each week Shade was determined to post one of the songs he’d written and his social media followers promised to send enough tags so that DJ Young Music was sure to at least notice his music. And he did.

After listening to more than 5,000 other submissions, DJ Young Music heard something special and put the song into the mix. The station’s phone lines lit up instantly; DJ Young Music had just discovered the newest breakout star from the DC metro area. After meeting Shade and hearing more songs he’d written, DJ Young Music knew he had something special, and signed him immediately to his independent label, DYMG Entertainment, N.S.U.C. Entertainment Group, distributed by eOne.

“His sound, his voice caught my ear,” shares DJ Young Music, “but it was his drive and work ethic that got him signed to DYMG. Not only does he write, produce, and perform his own music, he’s committed to his artistry. His is God sent!”

Beyond the voice, Shade Jenifer is a multi instrumentalist who plays piano, saxophone and drums. Shade also produces his own music. His hit debut single “Ain’t No Problem” from his self titled album “Shade Jenifer” which released in May, swept through radio like wildfire. In its first week “Ain’t No Problem,” became the 5th Most Added Singles on Media Base’s Urban radio charts and took #1 Most Added Indy joint. This matched Shade’s single at the top with the likes of Drake (#1), Jeremih (#2), Drake again at (#3) and Rihanna (#4), with more than 20 adds in the market.

We got the breakout star to weigh in on his burgeoning career, how he sees himself right now and more…

From the outside looking in, who is Shade Jenifer?

Shade Jenifer is a humble, hungry, blessed & determined young man with a passion for music wanting to share it with the world. I grew up loving it from an early age and it’s always been something I couldn’t go a day without. Music to me should be timeless and I wanna be able to influence my generations and the ones after that with music that never dies out. Music that’ll live forever.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

It was me realizing music was what i loved to do. Growing up I was always around music and I grew attached to it. I remember seeing Chris Brown – Yo (Excuse Me Miss) on TV and thinking “Wow that’s cool and something I’d want to do in life one day”. How I got directly in the industry was by winning a social media contest being held by Dj Young Music. He heard my track and signed me to his independent label DYMG entertainment. Now the world has Shade Jenifer.

What do you want people get from your music?

A little bit of everything. The most important thing is music they can relate to. I want people to be able to use my songs to help them through life, bring people together, ease their minds and just be able to help whoever listens. Music with meaning.

Tell us about your current project.

My album SHADE JENIFER dropped on May 20th It’s 12 songs of high quality great music with different genres, and there really is a song for everybody. Some being emotional, some being fun, some about love – it really is just a great album that I would suggest for everyone not just because I made it but because it really is good.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

That’s hard because not one song to me would do it. I have multiple styles of music so if I choose one song to introduce me as an artist that wouldn’t be really doing any justice. The song I’m feeling right now is my new fun single “Ain’t No Problem”.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

I love dancing, That’s why Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, Usher are some of my biggest influences. Playing instruments is another hobby of mine. I love the drums, saxophone and can play a little bit piano. Sports (particularly basketball & football) are things I enjoy playing and watching. I love watching movies and plan on starring in some. Eating my mom’s food & playing 2k or GTA on Playstation.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

Crazy DM’s.

Nuff Said!!!
