Made in Mississippi: Kang Mojo

Kang Mojo (@Kang_Mojo) is a hard hitter from Mississippi and his lingo gives no doubt that he’s on that G *ish…what’s his story?

In the deep South where the crossroads of blues trails ignite the evenings, and the Delta’s influence reaches way more genres than than just blues, Kang Mojo was born, and raised on the east side by the interstate. Just as in the city of Angels itself, the constant sounds of traffic and the ability to sense vibes of folks in traveling states influences your lyrics and creation. As the hot and humid air lingered into many Delta nights, Kang started to find ways with his crew to record music. At an early age he earned the nickname “freestyle”, akin to stars like Jay Z, Free Uhuru, Dr. Dre and Kid Cudi. Performing at gigs like Eastside High School and Delta State University, Kang and his E.G.P. Crew began to make waves and get recognized for their raw talent.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I always had a passion for music. My dad Cedric Cox played in the band with Bobby Rush in his days and I used to play around with his drum sets and keyboard all the time. I always used to dabble with freestyle rap until I realized my full potential to produce and write music.

What do you want people get from your music?

I want people to vision my story im telling like a book they read. Mojo Muzik is the sound of motivation and inspiration coming from a place of less opportunity. Most say swag but posses Mojo and people who listen to my music feel that energy I bring every song.

Tell us about your current project.

My current project im working on now is titled “Mojo Muzik Vol.3”. With hit singles such as “Solid” “Candy” and “I Been” it’s looking to be a great project. Gets better and better!

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

For new listeners I would say go back to Volume 1 and listen to “Crooked Letter I” & “Call Me Country”. Those to songs will sum up who I am and what I do it for!

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

I always been a athlete as well as artist going through school so I still have a passion for sports as well. I help little football and basketball teams as much as possible.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

My craziest wtf moment had to be in L.A. for my birthday last year. I was perfoming with a band at Harvells and all of sudden a part of the roof caved in. We literally brought the roof down that night lol.
