Who is Apollo Night LA ‘Artist of the Week’ Jùnot

Apollo Night LA (@ApolloNightLA) “Artist of the Week” winner Jùnot Indigo (@junotjoyner) first began recording songs with his friend Miles “Styles” Simmons when he was 18-years old. Within 6-months, he scored a $3-million recording contract now defunct Diverse City Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music. Unfortunately, the label was shuttered just 3-months after Jùnot signed. An American Idol contestant in 2008, Jùnot “made it to Hollywood” Week before getting cut. The following year he made it to the semi-finals and was fondly remembered for his original take on the Plain White T’s hit song “Hey There Delilah.”

His exit from the show was seen as a surprise due to the fact that Jùnot never received negative feedback from the celebrity judges and even prompted Entertainment Weekly personality Michael Slezak to write a scathing article regarding Ju`not’s exit and subsequent non-invite to the Wild Card Round.
In November 2013 Jùnot released a 7-track EP online called “The Indigochild Vol. 1” which was well-received by fans and music critics. The lead single “A Little You And Me” managed to make the rotation on Sirius XM’s Heart and Soul and peaked at #40 on Billboard’s Urban/AC chart.
unnamed-2Jùnot has performed in venues all over the country including the world-famous LVH in Las Vegas, opening for acts such as Joe, B.O.B, Erykah Badu, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Jaheim, The Isley Brothers, Jazmine Sullivan, Chuck Brown, Jaime Foxx and Ne-Yo. In 2015, he was in the touring stage play “The Little Black Dress”, starring alongside Miguel Nunez Jr. (Life, Juwanna Man) and Tamika Scott (Xscape). He was also in the stage play “Shaken”, written and directed by renowned playwright Donald Gray (A Good Man Is Hard To Find).

In 2015, Jùnot published a book titled “Reality Check: You Guide to Getting on a Singing Reality Show”. The book is available on Amazon Kindle.

From the outside looking in, who is Jùnot?
“I’m a music producer, artist, actor, screenwriter and published author. I’m just a guy with a lot of talent looking to express all of the gifts God gave me.”
What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?
“Honestly, being creative is the only thing that comes naturally to me. We all are inbued with our own gifts and talents by the Universe. Mine were to be creative so it was only natural for me to gravitate toward artistry, in all its expressions. Plus, I have some famous Gospel singers in my family so I was always pushed to sing. I won’t name them because I do secular music and I’m kind of the ‘black sheep’ right now because I don’t want to sing Gospel, but I do what’s in my heart. We all have our own paths to travel.”

Tell us about your current project and your ApolloNightLA “Artist of the Week” winning single “Manifesto.”
“Manifesto” is a song I wrote in response to some people saying I should just sing instead of rap. Maybe they’re right, but I don’t give a shit. I sing and I rap. I do what I want because I’m a one-man band. While I’m open to working with others and in some instances would embrace it, I don’t need a producer to be creative. I make my own shit without any help. People hear my singing voice and immediately put me in a box because I sing so well but I feel creativity is stretching. So the song is just a response to them as well as giving people a background on who I am as a person/artist and telling people where I came from.

Right now I’m working on another EP. I havent’t named it yet but I’m in a great creative space. I’ll probably be done around the Summer of ’17 so just follow me on social media to get updates on my progress.
For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you?

Wow…that’s like asking me which one of my kids do I love more! I honestly don’t know the answer to that question because I have something for everyone. I have a wide musical palette so that bleeds into my sound. People are attracted to different aspects of my music so it depends on your own personal tastes. I would encourage everyone to cop my last EP “The Indigochild Vol. 1” off iTunes or Amazon and see for yourself. You’ll definitely connect with something on there. Or hit up my Youtube channel.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I was on a show with Frankie Beverly and Maze in Las Vegas at the Hilton. I was halfway through my set when a woman ran on stage and kissed me on the mouth. She wasn’t bad looking so I wasn’t (that) mad but still I was like “shawty, at least give me the choice!” You just violated me. I felt so…so…vulnerable.
Despite becoming a recognizable name he remains somewhat elusive.  Jùnot interacts with fans via TwitterInstagram, and his website www.JunotLive.com. He independently distributes his music and content on his own digital imprint The 4th Dimension, LLC.
