0i-D – The A-Z of Music
Sponsored by Marc Jacobs, the video explores the center of an eclectic variety of music and brings together rising talent and established legends to create a unique individual musical composition unlike any other.
Written by Dave Harrington, the multi-instrumentalist, and producer that makes up half of Darkside, and directed by filmmaker Sam de Jong, I-D’s A-Z of Music effortlessly stitches together 26 live performances captured in the video, creating a new collective composition. Each artist selected an abstract word to identify their music for the film, eschewing outdated genre titles in favor of personalized descriptions of their music ranging from A-Z. The end result is a piece of musical happenstance that finds figures like jazz legend Roy Ayers working alongside the underground DJ and producer collective de Jong, I-D’s A-Z of Music effortlessly stitches together 26 live performances captured in the video, creating a new collective composition. Styled in Marc Jacobs, each artist adds something unique to the song, creating unexpected contrasts and crossovers. Rising electronic musician Serpentwithfeet contributes a haunting gospel vocal while viral rap star Cody B delivers a fiery statement of confidence only a moment afterward. Influential, Avant-legend Tanya Tagaq finds her throat singing juxtaposed with Kodie Shane of Lil Yachty’s Sailing Team crew. Porches’ Aaron Maine supplies a subtle keyboard lick before Bryndon Cook, the guitar virtuoso for Solange, rips a fiery solo over the trail.
