Home Improvement: Spring Cleaning Tips

What can you do if you’re short on time to clean?

The first thing to think about is the different products that you are going to be using. Lets say you have a short amount of time but you need to get things done like dishes. Think about how much time we spend scrubbing dishes before we put them in the dish washer. Doesn’t it make a lot of sense especially when you have things like these Cascades Pods. The technology has gotten to where you don’t have to do all that scrubbing. Just put them in the dishwasher and they are going to take care of it! Technology is your friend. When it comes to counter tops, the Clorox disinfectant wipes are a great. You don’t have to have a separate spray or paper towels. Just spray and wipe and it kills germs. Also, Sentiva from Clorox is a product that is cool, because it adds all the same things and includes a cent in the air. If it smells clean, then it feels a lot cleaner. Even Febreze, if you are having guests over and you need to get things cleaned up, the odor technology in Febreze is wonderful. These kinds of things are going to make it quick and easy for you.

If we find ourselves with an extra hour, how can we make the most of that time?

The first thing that you want to think about are things that you don’t often think about in spring cleaning. One of those would be changing out the filters in your air conditioning system. It takes just a few minutes. First, you need to make sure that they are getting the right type of filter. Honywell makes a great selection of filters, and they are rated by what we call Filter Performance Rating (FPR). Those are the numbers you see on the filter that tell you how fine a particulate that filter will filter out. Anything from pet dander and dust to smog particles or mold spores. When you do replace these, write the day on the filter, so you know you should replace them every three months or so. You also want to make sure the right filter size.

Other things you can do with an hour is mopping. There is some technology now that makes mopping I wouldn’t say fun, but easier. So, this Tornado mop, all you must do to ring it out, is twist it like that and you don’t have to touch it but you let it go and you are in business. There is also an easy ring spin mop. It has a little centrifugal, almost like a colander, that you spin, and it spins the water out. I don’t have to touch the mop, I don’t have to get dirty, I can spin the water out an I’m ready to go. If you are using this on wood floors make sure to use a wood floor cleaner. Like Eona cleaner specifically for wood floors. Soap scum is a tuff thing to tackle. Kaboom makes this fantastic product that you spray on blue, when it’s ready to wipe off it turns white. In the meantime, clean your toilet with this Clorox wand. You can put this scrub on the end of it, it’s got the cleaner built into it, switch it around and scrub up. No mess, no bother at all.

If we’re going to spend an entire day dedicated to spring cleaning, where should we focus our attention?

For me, you get the biggest bang out of cleaning your windows. Think about how all winter long they have been rained on and everything else, good clean windows are going to brighten your entire home. So, the thing to think about is the right window cleaner. So, this spray way cleaner is cool because its ammonia free but it’s also a foam. So, when you spray it on your windows, it just doesn’t run right off like a lot of your liquid window cleaners. So, this is easy to use and when you get those windows clean, you are really are going to enjoy your home. Also think about things like your refrigerator, we often forget about that. Take all the shelves and doors and everything out, get them nice and clean and scrub them. You can use a cleaner like this Method. Now people want more natural products. They want less chemicals and Method is all plant based materials. Don’t forget about your furniture. You can use this Orange GLO which is a natural citrus based cleaner that is going to give your furniture a great luster that it deserves.
