The Hype Magazine – Special Edition ft. Rob Terell

Who is Rob Terell, and where are you from?
Rob is from the Bronx, New York where he was raised by a single parent mother. Rob Terell is a serial entrepreneur, thought leader, innovator, and official deal maker. An individual who has dedicated his life to the plight, journey, and inherent risks of entrepreneurship. The entertainment industry is a core business focus largely based on his passion and love for music.

How did you prepare yourself to step into the entrepreneurial arena?
I read alot of books on successful people that I admired, studied their journey, and tried to emulate their characteristics and habits. I then tried and failed at alot of business opportunities, but learned to learn from each mistake that caused the failure and kept getting better at it. I kept going until I finally got one right and that’s when I made my first million dollars in business as an entrepreneur. From there I’ve always had the confidence to know that I could do it regardless of the circumstances.

What prompted you to venture into the entertainment industry?
Trying to help a childhood friend of mines who was a studio engineer and dope producer. He knew I had an innate knack for business and high business acumen. He kept getting screwed over by the industry on almost every project. He was working with alot of major acts and putting in countless hours of work but not getting paid or properly credited for his work once published. So one day he just got fed up and asked me to help him with handling the business side of his career. I agreed to help and later on realized that I had bumped right into my calling. Its been a love hate relationship ever since lol.

Who are some of the business personalities you studied as you developed your business model?
Definitely, Russell Simmons who I still study his business models today. Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles, Master P., and the Cash Money brothers.

If you could describe your style of management in one word, what would it be and why?
Strategic. The reason I say that is because there is no cookie cutter system to creating, building, and developing a viable brand. You have to be very strategic about your crafting and execution. Every artist situation and circumstances is unique to their pathway. My job is to figure out all the pieces to the puzzle and how to make it work so ultimately we are successful.

What keeps the fire burning hot for you as regards being an entrepreneur?
First knowing that God blessed me with this gift and he has my back no matter what I go through. Secondly, knowing that there is no plan B for me, this is all I know how to do, want to do, and will do until I can’t do anything. I’m willing to die for what I believe is my purpose, and this is definitely IT.
