ESSENCE (and others) Festival ‘Survival Guide’
Music festivals abound continuously across the globe, right now it’s the Essence Festival in New Orleans which covers June 29 through July 2nd, and this year’s event is epic! With appearances by Diana Ross, the reunion of XSCAPE and a keynote address by celebrated Congresswoman Maxine Waters, it’s important to be ready to maximize your experience.
How? Well, there are a few basics that experienced festival goers just know like, don’t forget your phone wall charger, have a couple extra charging devices, extra memory cards for your camera, sunscreen and the like. There ARE some extra points that can make your festival experience even better and startup travel company AllTheRooms.com (@alltherooms) put together an 11 item list of things that, while specifically directed at ESSENCE Fest for the moment, apply equally as well to just about any major outing…here’s an excerpt:

1. Get the festival app
2. Book your hotel, yesterday
Do not wait until the last minute to book your hotel. You will regret it. Check out the Essence Festival Guide for places to stay in New Orleans, or check here. Do it now!
3. Experience NOLA before the chaos
Get to New Orleans a day early or stay a day after the festival. This will give you a chance to enjoy the city without the heavy crowds. NOLA has its own special magic with and without Essence Fest.
4. Keep it cute and comfy
Pull out the comfy shoes. Traffic is inevitable, so you’re better off staying close by and walking. Between the commute and the convention, you’ll be on your feet for hours.
5. Prepare for tricky weather“
