Five Questions With Deezie Brown:

Deezie Brown was raised in the outskirts of Austin, Texas, where he was surrounded by a community that unknowingly suppressed creativity. He spent much of his childhood out in the surrounding lonely woods and listening to the emerging Texas hip hop artists with his father. Creative imagery and his respect for the concept of love at a young age has driven his motivation of music.

What brought Deezie to music?

He says, “As I entered high school, Kanye West in my headphones from 9th to 12th grade. When graduation dropped I was in college in Houston, Texas while attending Texas Southern University. The moment I heard that album I no longer wanted to pursue the rigid track of education. I left that same semester confident in my mind that I was never going back. I loved the school, I loved the culture but after hearing that album, I knew I wanted to be creative, consistent and competitive. Currently, I still listen to Ye along with others like Toro y Moi & Kid Cudi.”

What’s on his playlist?

Deezie declares, “One of my favorites definitely has to be Bon Iver. I love the creative process behind Justin Vernon’s ideas and his vocals. The way he creatively uses autotune even though sonically, he doesn’t even have to. His drum patterns are out of this world also. Great band.”

Balance

When I’m not doing music I spend a lot of time with my family. I ry to spend as much time with my daughter as possible. Balancing music with family is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do but the challenge is amazing. I love riding my dirt bike as I feel like I could build so many albums just around my bike. I do a lot of writing whether it’s scores, films on my own music. The tool to write is one of the most amazing things that I’ve been blessed with.

In terms of performances, he’s played at almost every venue in the Austin and San Antonio area including Stubbs, The Mohawk, Austin Music Hall, & The Korova Also opening for artist like Curren$y, David Banner, Bun B, Method Man & Redman, Kxng Crooked, Big Krit, & former G.O.O.D Music Artist Yasiin Bey FKA Mos Def.

As you see yourself, who is Deezie Brown?

I’m just a kid from Bastrop, Texas that was blessed with one thing and one thing only “creativity”. I plan to use my gift to support my family and daughter’s education. I want to give her a platform to become the best version of herself and that starts with me.

Tell us about your current project?

Basically, I wrote an album about the industry and how it brainwashed me by showing me an image of what success looks like. I disguise this in the album by telling a love story between a materialistic girl named Judith and I. She represents what the industry is to me. Essentially, I’m selling out for her in hopes for the good, industry life in return. Mid-way through the album titled, JUDITH, I catch on to her antics and find myself trying to go back ‘home’.

What’s on your bucket list to accomplish as an entertainer?

If I could accomplish anything as an artist the main thing would be to support my family solely off of music. Creatively, if I could wake up every day and be compensated for a gift that I’ve been blessed with them I’m good. My Bucket list used to consist of things like expensive sports cars and major recording deals but with growth, things changed. I want to provide a good future for my daughter through music, not a job to make ends meet. However, I will say I would love to work Pharrell Williams before it’s all said and done.

Will you be finishing out 2017 on the road or what’s on your horizon for 2018?

I’m going to spend the rest of the year preparing for my upcoming album release titled, JUDITH. From there, I want to move onto my next concept and work with my team on an even more productive roll out and creative marketing direction.

The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?

I’m glad you asked that. I think the amount of exposure platforms have drastically increased, however, most appear to be in it for the money, not the art. You’ve got artist like myself that has been chasing what I would call financial and creative freedom/happiness for quite some time. I feel as if I am a cog in a wheel that is just a name someone glosses over while scrolling through a timeline. The pay to play model will not change but it is disheartening that beautiful art is overshadowed by money’s aura.
