Five Questions With AdELA

AdELA is stepping out in the music industry and making her mark known. Combining old-school Hip Hop beats with a new school soul vibe vocally, and witty rap lyrics, AdELA has etched out a sound and style that is all her own. Working alongside GRAMMY Award winning Produer, STREETRUNNER, AdELA’s latest project has all the right elements to propel it to the top of the charts. For her sophomore EP she collaborated with Fat Joe, Kool G Rap, Skyzoo, Torae, Royce Da 5’9, Jon connor, Kid Vishis, Cormega and Clemm Rishad. (Spotify)

An amazing vocalist, AdELA is equally adept with the lyrical delivery. She exciting for music as a whole in my humble opinion and we are just getting a peek and what she has in store! We got AdELA to weigh in on a few things and let me tell you, the collab with Torae and Kid Vishis So Much More proves she’s got something to say and it ain’t about the fluff! ~ JD

You led off your EP “Dreamers & Thinkers” with massive singles “Love For You” Ft. Skyzoo and Main Attraction ft. Kool G Rap and you’ve got the massive sound of GRAMMY winner STREETRUNNER. Tell us about this project and how it places for you in your journey as an artist.

When I recorded my first project “Off The Burner” I wanted to show people that I could create a body of work that told a story, as well as paint a clear picture of who I was as an artist. I am both a singer and rapper. This allowed me to build a fan base and connect with other artists. So on the second project, I had the idea of recording a collaboration album. It started with the record “Love For You” featuring Skyzoo. He was so dope and I loved being able to work with someone else who was bringing a different sound to the table that I thought, why not reach out to other emcees that I look up to or whose sound I love and see if they would be down to collab. I created songs and reached out to each rapper (9 in total) and they gave me verses that were on a million percent. As an artist, I feel validated that my music is on a level that these artists were down to contribute to. I am an independent artist, so just having these guys rock with me is a blessing and I still look at the track list and think “did this really happen?” and then as an added bonus to have a heavyweight like STREETRUNNER executive produce the album is major. STREETRUNNER and I have a classic sound together and we take time in crafting each record. It’s always quality over quantity with us.

AdELA (Artist Submitted)

Do you feel your current project is the best introduction to you as an artist?

I go into every song, like it’s my first song. The sound has to be my own because that’s what sets me apart from other artists. I also have the creative freedom to sing and rap. I have tried to keep that balance on both this project “Dreamers & Thinkers” as well as the previous project “Off The Burner”. And you never know what song will grab a person so my style or signature needs to be on every track.

Like Nate Dogg (RIP), your vocals add that special something to riffs from some of Hip Hop‘s greatest. What made you expand out from joints like “Red Rose” and come more aggressive?

I really try to keep the balance on the EP’s so when a person is listening to the entire body of work they can get an idea of who I am as an artist as well as what my sound is. It is always a progression for me on these albums. So while I have the smooth sound on some joints, I can also channel that aggression or wild vibe on another track.

What’s on your slate to finish 2017 and what’s on the horizon for 2018?

2017 is all about pushing “Dreamers & Thinkers”, not only as an EP but a movement. Once I had the finished product in my hands, it was go time. So I feel like I am just getting started. The wave is coming.

The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?

I have those almost daily, but I always have a WTF moment when I see rappers lip sync. Can we just fucking stop that wave already. I am a firm believer in rapping and singing live and if you fuck up, take the hit on the chin and keep it moving. I also have moments where I am sure other people are like WTF. I just recently said “shit” twice on college radio and literally got the Jazzy Jeff boot out of there!
