Witness the return of Ohio Players! For the first time in almost 30 years, they are back with new music. Their return is heralded by the release of the first single, Reset. Aptly titled, this triumph of sound brings the heart of funk while successfully saluting today’s sonic demands. Don’t fret though, you’ll KNOW it’s real funk as SOON as the track begins to play. Ohio Players are an American national treasure, a band that truly broke the mold and changed the face of music forever. At their heights, they produced 17 Top 40 hits, with multiple platinum and gold selling albums, including masterpiece songs such as ‘Skin Tight’, ‘Fire’, ‘Love Rollercoaster’ and ‘Who’d She Coo?’
Their music has been used everywhere, from McDonald’s commercials to Reality TV shows (in 2004 they were given a prestigious BMI award for the use of the song ‘Fire’ on 12 seasons of Hell’s Kitchen). Their music has been sampled by Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Outkast, Notorious BIG, 2Pac, Mary J Blige and a great many others keeping their sound current and fresh.
In 2013, the Players were inducted into the inaugural class of the Official R&B Music Hall of Fame and in 2017, for the first time in almost 30 years, the original Players have been back in the studio recording the new music.
The first single to drop is called ‘Reset’ and rest assured: THE FUNK IS BACK! Mature and refined and complete with that earthy timeless signature sound that made Ohio Players international superstars. The track is big and bold; with those incredible free-form rhythms, crisp horns and opening with a screeching guitar that sets the tone perfectly for a time travelling journey back into the funk – with lyrics like “somebody lied when they said funk had died” – the Players are on a mission to bring back the time when music felt real.
