Recap: Russell Simmons honored during The Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood 80th Anniversary Celebration

According to the official line, The Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood Rang in its 80th anniversary with the biggest event in the club’s history, honoring Russell Simmons, Beverley Kruskol, and William Braddock. The venue filled rapidly with individual champions of underserved youth and businesses with strong corporate citizenship platforms.

The Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood is celebrating 80 years of serving the children of the Hollywood community with a gala event that honored those who work to enrich the lives of the youth—including music industry legend Russell Simmons.

Retired NBA Champion John Salley hosted the evening in front of hundreds of prominent members of the business, entertainment,  and philanthropic communities. The night also featured Hip Hop and ballet/piano performances from the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood kids.

Every day, 1,247,699 kids in California leave school with nowhere to go. They risk being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. The Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood serves 1,628 of those youth. Additionally, 18% of young people in Los Angeles fail to graduate from high school on time. The Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood provides academic assistance and workshops to boost expected graduation rates among their teen-aged Club members to 94%.

Co-founder of Def Jam Records, Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation and All Def Digital Russell Simmons was honored with the Youth Advocacy Award.

After a magnificent introduction, Russell gave an inspired speech on the importance of supporting our youth in all aspects of life, fostering a health-conscious existence, meditation and he also made an impassioned statement on the Vegan lifestyle as it relates to respect for life.

Retired Executive and Board of Governors for Farmers Insurance, William “Bim” Braddock accepted the Margie & Robert E. Petersen Humanitarian Award and President and CEO of M.Y. Pacific Buildings Inc. Beverley Kruskol received the Community Impact Award.

The evening netted a substantial amount of support for the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood via an amazing auction styled wind down.
