The Hype Magazine: Meet JDaGr8

Houston’s JDaGr8 is starting to make a lot of noise but that always wasn’t the case. He’s experienced extreme highs and lows and Bizzy Bone (Bone Thugs-N-Harmony) help save his life. Read his inspiring story below.

Meet JDaGr8- one of Houston’s hottest rappers on the rise. On a tough grind from a young age and troubled past, JDaGr8 never stopped reaching for the stars and striving towards his career as an artist. Fans say that JDaGr8 sounds like a hybrid of Kevin Gates and Drake; yes, he’s that good! JDaGr8 has already shared stages with Young Thug, Kevin Gates, French Montana, Trina, 2 Chainz, Bun B, T.I., Future, Kid Ink, Tory Lanez, Slim Thug, and Kirko Bangz. And this is only the beginning!

JDaGr8 fell in love with hip-hop when he was a teenager because of his father, who introduced him to Death Row artists. JDaGr8 admires cartoons and recalls the moment in his father’s car where he saw Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle” cassette, which has a cartoon drawing as the artwork. Right then and there, he assumed that music comes out of cartoons. His interest in music began at this moment because he realized that all art forms go hand in hand.

JDaGr8 was an at-risk teen, with his first felony at 13 years old. Even though he came from a broken home, he put his pain into art and started writing poetry and raps in the 7th grade. Not only was he writing, but he started recording music and even selling his mixtapes. JDaGr8 was a high school drop out, but put his all into his dreams and continued the music grind. Although JDaGr8 did make mistakes when he was younger, ironically he was wrongfully accused for a crime that he didn’t do and was in prison from 2008 to 2013. But, JDaGr8 made the best out of it because that’s what he does; he wrote 20 albums while he was locked up!

JDaGr8’s fans have compared his rap deliverance to his mentor and favorite artist- Bizzy Bone from legendary group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. This was a huge compliment to JDaGr8 because when he was 17 and homeless, he almost gave up on his dream and said a prayer to God saying in exact words, “This is it. I’m ready to die. If you don’t give a sign in less than 24 hours I quit everything and throw my life away.” The morning after this prayer, Bizzy Bone checked into the same hotel where he was staying. JDaGr8 immediately knew that God answered his prayer. Bizzy Bone started treating JDaGr8 like a little brother and taught some ropes of the industry while both of them were guests at the same hotel. Besides a life-changing experience and bond, they did two songs together.

JDaGr8 has goals to organically build relationships with other artists. He sees himself working with Ty Dolla Sign, J. Cole, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and PartyNextDoor. And of course, he would like to rub elbows with Snoop Dogg because “Doggystyle” is what started it all for him.

JDaGr8 is currently working on his album “TillWeAllRich” and recently released his recent single “Pronto”. DJs are already saying that people are going crazy over the record. JDaGr8 has major things ahead of him with the way he’s going!
