Alonzo Mourning and The Mourning Foundation Host the 4th Annual Zo’s Winter Groove

Alonzo and Tracy Mourning and the Mourning Family Foundation celebrated the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend with the 4th Annual Zo’s Winter Groove in Miami, FL. This 4-day weekend of celebrity-filled events included a youth summit, a family wellness community event, a comedy show, and a charity golf tournament.

The weekend kicked off Friday with over 500 high school students at the Zo’s Youth Summit Groove, an annual event held at Florida Memorial University that initiates stimulating conversation about bullying, social media, negative music, and weapons of mass destruction. This year’s attention-grabbing speakers included Patrice Washington, the Steve Harvey Show financial contributor “America’s Money Maven,” Gerald Washington, the Creative and Executive Producer of the television show Lil Big Shots, motivational speaker Terri Crooks, and social activist Arnold Chandler.

“We ask them the questions, they tell us what they truthfully want to hear,” said Bill Diggs, President of the Mourning Family Foundation.  “And then we sit down with sociologists and psychologists and try to make sure that we develop these panels based on what we think they want to hear. And also how we want to move them to the next level of their own education.”

Saturday, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning, hosted their annual Zo’s Family Health & Wellness Day that included a 5K run/walk, health screenings, food trucks, cooking demonstrations, fitness classes, interactive fun zone, football and basketball’s youth clinic, a kid’s zone with bounce houses and face painting, and live entertainment that included the Miami Heat dancers and team mascot Burnie, and a performance from Miami recording-artist Yung Gordon. Sunday’s annual comedy show, Zo’s Comedy Show, was gut-crouching funny as comedians JB Smoove, Jay Phillips Alex Thomas, and Erin Jackson hit the stage for an evening of laughs for a cause.  Monday ended the week of festivities with the Zo’s Hall of Fame Golf Groove, a golf fun-raiser full of amazing energy, a one-of-a-kind culinary spread, and networking with the elite.

The entire weekend of events raised funds for the Mourning Family Foundation, a non-profit organization ran by NBA Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning and his wife Tracy Mourning that focuses on youth development through advocacy, education, and enrichment in disenfranchised South Florida communities.
