8th Annual Miami Dolphins Cancer Challenge Celebrates Cancer Survivors

The Miami Dolphins recently celebrated their 8th Annual Dolphins Cancer Challenge, the team’s  largest fundraising event. 100% of proceeds raised during this exciting weekend of events were donated to the ongoing innovative cancer research at  the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This year’s event drew in more than 4,000 cancer fighters who walked, ran, biked, and volunteered throughout all of South Florida with the goal to bring awareness and an end to Cancer.

The Dolphins Cancer Challenge weekend kicked off with a party followed by its signature event that included 5 bicycle routes through South Florida, a 5K run/walk, and a finish line concert headlined by the Goo Goo Dolls and Big Head Todd & the Monsters.

“Our gratitude goes out to everyone involved in the DCC (Dolphins Cancer Challenge), from the Dolphins to the donors, volunteers and each and every participant,” Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., said. “We are all partners in this fight to find new cures. The impact of this event and everyone’s commitment cannot be overstated.”

This year the Miami Dolphins had more than 250 Cancer survivor participants, the largest turnout of cancer fighters in the event’s 8 year history. To date this event has raised over $22.5 million.

Unfortunately most people have been touched in some shape or form from the Cancer disease. It is extremely rare to find someone who has never had it or known anyone who has suffered from it. According to the American Cancer Society in 2018 alone, there have been over 1.7 million new cancer cases diagnosed.

The Dolphins Cancer Challenge will continue raising funds for cancer research with its third annual DCC Celebrity Golf Tournament set to take place on April 13, 2018. The tournament is another chance for cancer fighters to golf and interact with athletes and other celebrities.
