0The Official “Run For The Roses” Menu Has Been Announced For The 144th Kentucky Derby
Widely known as “the two most exciting minutes in sports,” the Kentucky Derby returns for its 144th annual race on May 5, 2018. Inaugurated in 1875, the legendary 1 ¼-mile race is the oldest continuously held major sporting event in North America, while serving as the first leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown series. Also known as the “The Run for the Roses” and “America’s Race,” the Kentucky Derby is the most attended U.S. horserace, with more than 158,000 attendees in 2017.
Today, the highly-anticipated official menu for the Kentucky Derby was announced. In celebration of Woodford Reserve’s presenting sponsorship of the Kentucky Derby, this year’s menu draws inspiration from the bold flavors of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and qs carefully curated by Executive Chef David Danielson, bringing a modern twist to traditional Southern dishes. Highlights include roasted sweet potato salad, pimento cheese, cornbread with bourbon honey butter, chef-carved roasted turkey breast with bourbon peach glaze, and bourbon caramel crème brûlée.
To serve the 22,000 guests expected in the premium dining areas, Danielson’s menu requires:
– 5,640 pounds of turkey
– 14,000 locally made bourbon balls
– 7,600 pounds of potatoes
– 4,075 pounds of braised pork
