Exclusive: Jonny Polonsky Premieres “I Can’t Get Your Face Out Of My Mind” Via The Hype

Having notable supporters in Jeff Buckley, John Zorn, David Bowie guitarist Reeves Gabrels and The Pixies’ Frank Black, Jonny Polonsky was signed to American Recordings by its founder Rick Rubin in the mid-1990s. Polonsky wound up on MTV and touring as part of Lollapalooza. Polonsky eventually became an in-demand session musician. His touring and/or recording credits include Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, The Dixie Chicks, and Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan’s band Puscifer.

2018’s Fresh Flesh is the latest full-length album from Polonsky. The Hype Magazine is proud to premiere Polonsky’s music video for “I Can’t Get Your Face Out Of My Mind,” a song from Fresh Flesh.

Said Polonsky of the song itself: “This is a song about obsession and loss and the pain of letting go even when you know something is over. The song was tracked live in the studio with my band, I played lead guitar with my left hand and the keyboard with my right. I do that sometimes just to shake things up—it makes me play differently. Plus I really got into Rahsaan Roland Kirk around this time.”

Added Polonsky: “The tribal jungle drum overdub towards the end of the song was played by Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus and Love & Rockets. He and I have been friends for a while and have worked together over the years a bunch of times live and in the studio.

Per the music video itself, Polonsky noted: “The video was directed by an artist in Los Angeles who goes by the name of CLOAKING. He creates incredible computer-generated images and textures that he projects live onto a screen while filming. He is really amazing at creating a highly unusual, visually stunning and provocative atmosphere. I discovered him on the internets from some Poptone press photos he had taken.”
