Paid In AmeriKKKa – No Free Lunch

The sensual kick off to Once Again warns that you are in store for something as Paid In AmeriKKKa comes in with a brand of reality rap that is not common today, dropping gems on the reality of what it will take to elevate in this day and age. Calling into question the hypocrisy that exists in both life and music as at times it does a poor job imitating real life. An aggression that is to be respected his hook goes:

“But you can get caught / know what you selling and know what you bought / let your paper stack / you ain’t gotta floss / them boys on the watch and they tryna get your clock ….”

No more real than that.  The perfect intro in my opinion. From there I tapped into Ring of Ceremonies which features Truth Hayes. As I settled in I was overcome with the feeling that I was riding in an old school down a cool ass street in the south. Switching up his flow, John Cooper syncs his teeth into the instrumental dropping game meant to keep us up on the ways of the world. A little less concept based, the bars flow and the vibe is phenomenal reminiscent of Ice Cube’s “Good Day” on higher BPMs

DGTGP takes us a little more to the dark side as John Cooper takes us back to the essence of his upbringing; lyrically taking us on a journey of the struggle which makes a man a man.

“I’m up every day / fuck talking what u make/ get that money / whatchu bank…..don’t get tired / get paid.”

Motivation music is what I call it. We all can relate to the understanding of the necessity to get up off our asses and getting what we came for. This record embodies a ghetto diary written by a young man standing firm on his faith that he will get it by any means necessary, staying focused. If you weren’t born with a silver spoon – this one’s for you.

Down Bad draws in weed smokers who subscribe to the therapeutic advantages of a little chronic smoke (Don’t Judge). I kept waiting for the proverbial Lil Jon “Okayyy” (wishful thinking).

“A nigga out here living broke and niggas never what they claim to be but I’m like fuck it tho”

One of the hardest tracks on the tape, John Cooper exhibits a knack of taking the pain and putting it to a bounce that allows you to celebrate overcoming the bullshit that goes on in the ghetto. Refer to “Boyz N Da Hood” for your lessons or listen to Paid In Amerikkka.

“Tales From The Chevelle” would make Pimp C proud. Any slow sipper should have this on repeat if you ask me.  Overall, John Cooper has put his soul into a tape that uplifts, reminds, excites and motivates anybody looking for reality. Cheers my brother you got one .
