How Blake Anderson, Funny Or Die & Dos Equis Created An “Interesante” Campaign

Last month, actor, writer and comedian Blake Anderson — best known as the co-creator and one of the stars the Comedy Central hit Workaholics, — partnered with popular beer brand Dos Equis on its “Keep It Interesante” campaign. Tied in with Cinco De Mayo, this led to the launch of the limited-edition Cinco Equis. While cans of Cinco Equis include the same beer found in a can of Dos Equis, the Anderson-approved Cinco Equis of course has three more X’s on the can. To promote such, Anderson appeared in a pair of videos for Dos Equis in partnership with Funny Or Die.

Dos Equis has since posted two new videos starring Blake Anderson, as posted below. I spoke with Quinn Kilby, Senior Brand Director for Dos Equis, about this smart and funny campaign.

How was the experience of working with Blake?

Quinn Kilby: He was tremendous to work with. Funny, engaged, quick on his feet. Totally embraced the concept of “Interesante.” And can drink a Dos or two with the best of them.

Cinco is now behind us, so what is coming up for the brand?

Quinn Kilby: College football is our next big bet. We just finished shooting 10 TV spots for the upcoming season featuring two legendary college football coaches that showcase how the history of college football just wouldn’t have been the same without Dos Equis.

Is there something you wish more people knew about Dos Equis?

Quinn Kilby: Dos Equis is the only beer served on draft in Dan Marino’s Dan Cave.
