I DO (J. Lauryn & Trackdilla) – Woke Up In Kingston

I DO is the creative bond of rising singer-songwriter J.Lauryn and international producer Trackdilla, formed with the goal of creating an organic sound that spans multiple musical influences and breaks genre restrictions. Today, July 13, the duo releases their debut single from their forthcoming EP “Woke Up In Kingston.”

“Woke Up In Kingston” fuses the worlds of Afro-pop, reggae, hip-hop, R&B and pop. Trackdilla’s production provides reggae beats that encapsulate an island vibe. Lyrically it’s a dark love story about internal struggle and personal growth told via J.Lauryn’s impassioned vocals. “It’s a love story about someone not living their truth and not being their true self in a situation, but then coming to find that self-awareness and realizing in yourself where and who you are,” says the singer.

For I DO, both J.Lauryn and Trackdilla pull from their experiences as solo artists and individual creators. An independent artist at heart, J.Lauryn is a Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter who’s released multiple projects as a solo artist, including her 2017 debut album Golden Year, which she fully produced, wrote and engineered herself. In 2017, she won her first-ever Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category for her work as a co-writer on reggae icon Ziggy Marley’s self-titled album. Her writing credits also include work for David Guetta, Ashanti and international K-pop star CL. Born in Angola, Africa, and raised in Paris, Trackdilla is a multiplatinum artist/producer/composer/DJ who combines his international background into a global sound that fuses the classical and the modern and transcends EDM, hip-hop, R&B and beyond. His extensive résumé includes production work and official collaborations with everyone from 2 Chainz and Rick Ross to Sean Paul and Scott Scorch, among many others. He is also the founder of his own label, Heavy Hustle Music Group, founded in 2015, and has collaborated with the world-famous DJ Spade (Drake/Rihanna/Future) on the dance floor hits “Come With Me” and “RU Going,” among others.

At the core of I DO’s music lives their universal message of love, inclusivity, connection and positivity as will be heard throughout their full EP. Their feel-good vibes communicate beyond cultural boundaries and aim to build a community that celebrates higher consciousness, confidence and good energy. In fact, the duo’s name is a take on the traditional marriage vowels of “I Do,” updated for today’s progressive world: I Do Music, I Do Creativity, I Do What I Do.

“I feel like a lot of people from different cultures and backgrounds will enjoy our music because it combines so many unique sounds and ideas,” says J.Lauryn. “It’s always amazing when you can create your sound, something that stands out from the rest, and define your own identity in a way that resonates with people from all walks of life.”
