Who Is: The DJ New Era

A resident of Alabama, DJ New Era has created a lane for himself as a top-notch DJ credited with residences in Atlanta, New York, Texas and other major markets. With 13 years under his built DJ New Era is a veteran whose knowledge and love of all genres including Hip Hop has propelled his career on the turntables.   An open format style Disc Jockey mixes Top 40, House, Roc, Disco and Reggae and EDM seamlessly.

More than a nightclub DJ, he is in demand by corporations such as Victoria Secrets, Macy’s, DSW and Abercrombie & Fitch. A critically acclaimed mix catalog that is featured on popular mix-shows such as Mixcloud.com and Livemixtapes.com the DJ New Era is a household name which you can find on Track Bully’s, and FM sets via 104.1 The Beat.

What is the significance of your name and how did you get that name?

My name came about from wearing hats. I own over 300 Fitted Caps. Every time I Dj I would always have on a different Fitted Cap, so a buddy of mine said My name should be Dj New Era. I had the name Dj Fitted Cap, which someone said was very corny. LOL

Describe your style?

My style of mixing is based on an open format. I like to mix a lot of remixes (EDM, Top 40 & Reggae). I’m good with beat juggling and scratching.

What was the first record you start scratching and mixing on the turntables?

My first record was Khia “My Neck My Back”.

You are a pretty diverse DJ, describe the music scene in your neck of the woods?

4. The music scene here in Alabama is based on mainly trap. The artist here has there own unique way of delivering their content. It’s some artists here that are open to many different styles of music.

How is it to work live sets with some of today’s biggest stars?

It is amazing to work sets with the big artists. I’ve done sets for Sy Ari Da Kid, K Camp, Scotty ATL, Pastor Troy and A1 The Super Group. All of these sets were done in Atlanta.

Who and what are your influences?

My biggest influences are Dj Kid Capri, Dj Red Alert & Dj Drama. My family also influences me to be a better Dj.

What artists are you listening to right now?

I’m riding around to Big Sean heavy & Big Krit

What would be the steps you would take as a Dj to Break an artist in your area?

  • The 1st step would be to build a solid relationship with the artist so we both can be on the same page
  • The 2nd step would be a listening session with other Djs to get thoughts on what record we should push
  • The 3rd step would be to move around an make his presences felt in the city and other markets.
  • The rest would be based on relationships & marketing

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

Work Hard Stay Humble it is too many arrogant Djs OWT here. Never forget where you came from also lend a helping hand.
