Who is UK Songbird Marcelle Adrianna?

Enriched with radiant vocals and glorious melodies Marcelle Adrianna provides us with the key to her mind as she unravels her thoughts and memories in her latest body of work The Prologue EP.  A snapshot into her life she relays her story which is woven together from conversations, voice notes, voicemails, text messages and diary entries.

Paying homage to old school RnB, her EP encapsulates the nostalgic essence that radiates from everything composing the records, from instrumentals, lyrics her powerful voice and the delivery. From the stripped back nature of ‘Realise’ to the tantalizing melodic gem ‘Fallin’’, the spellbinding EP explores the many crevasses of RnB. The lead single ‘Fall Back’ was exclusively premiered on DJ Ace’s Breakfast show on BBC Radio 1Xtra, with a flawless voice the single demonstrates pristine harmonies sealed together by an uplifting beat.

The Hype Magazine got the songstress to weigh in on a few things!

From the outside looking in, who is Marcelle Adrianna?

A storyteller and a creative, a singer and songwriter. I’m a south London girl born and raised. I’m an artist I’m very much an old soul and I’m stuck in the 60’s with a real obsession with Motown but I love my R&B music.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

My Tumblr followers. Everything literally started from there. A lot of people on Tumblr knew me as a photographer and I had started posting short covers on there. And they loved it, so a lot of my small following encouraged me to keep making singing videos and reposting them and eventually they started asking for original stuff and that’s how F.W.U came about.

What does music mean to you and what would life be like without it for you?

Music is literally how I function. I literally can’t operate without it. I remember my little brother told me before he doesn’t remember a day in his life when he hasn’t heard me singing. Like when there have been times when I’ve lost my voice and I’m literally suffering it’s horrible. But aside from singing just as a consumer, I need it… its something I depend on to lift my mood sometimes, motivate me and even when I’m sad and just want to be in my feelings it’s there. I feel like music is like an old teddy bear of mine that I literally can’t sleep without.

Tell us about your current project.

It’s my first ever project I’m so excited about it. It’s a real introduction to me, who I am and my sound. I’m telling a lot of stories on it I wrote it with my best friend Monique Amarylis who is a Canadian artist and it was produced by XVR BLCK, Miguel LDN, and Ace Keys. It’s combined plethora of a lot of the sounds and genres I love r&b, soul, some Caribbean vibes and a little pop thrown into the mix. It’s really just a taster of what’s to come from me! What I love about it the most is I feel like there’s a song for every mood on it. I love that I’ve been able to be so creative with my project. From creating the demos in my home studio and having a hand in the production but to the other side of it I’m very hands-on with everything I designed my artwork as well and I’ve creative directed my visuals also. I love creating and I’m so happy I finally have a project of my own to put out into the world.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

It might have to be Only One just because it’ the only track off the EP like it. It’s a real feel-good vibe we listened to a lot of the Temptations and the Jackson five when we made it because we (myself and Ace Keyz) wanted to encapsulate that old school sound but bring it forward to a more current R&B feel. Gives you a smidget of the kind of sound that’s to come from me as an artist a feel-good track that can give you a certain nostalgia but also giving you something fresh that you can vibe to. The track is the perfect blend of my soul side and my r&b sound its very honest writing about my relationship with my boyfriend who’s also my childhood sweetheart. I have a lot more to share!

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

As I touched on in a previous question a lot of people don’t know I’m on the internet as a musician but also as a photographer and a Graphic Designer. When I’m not singing you can usually find me behind a camera. So I’ve been lucky to shoot for boy bands like Mic Lowry and rappers like Skepta as well as design and art direct for huge fashion brands like Ted Baker. I’m just as passionate about my photography as my music and I love doing both! I’m a big storyteller and I love creating no matter the medium. Now that I’m doing music, it’s cool to be around a lot of artists so when I’m not working on my own music and projects I’m definitely excited to get involved with their stuff photographically and design wise too! I’m itching to shoot some more editorials!

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where**they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

I definitely think it’s something that happened to me earlier in the year I was in the hair shop on the phone buying some bundles and as I went into my bag for my purse a guy picked up my bag of hair and ran out the shop with it! I didn’t know what was more strange the fact that someone stole hair or that it was a guy. To this day I want to know what happened to that hair LOL.
