The Dallas Mavericks  Start the 2018-2019 preseason by taking care of the Beijing Ducks 116-63 behind a solid outing from Luka Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr. Both Smith and Doncic tallied 16 points a piece, while Smith lead the Mavericks in the assist category with six dimes. As for DeAndre Jordan, the Dallas’ crowd welcomed him with open arms as he collected nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists in his Maverick debut.

After the game coach Rick Carlisle talked about Luka’s ability to make plays, but they have to figure out a way to eliminate the unforced turnovers. He would add that he thought Dennis Smith Jr. played a great game.

The game was ugly in the first half the Ducks were able to control the tempo and hit shoots. There was able to keep the game close, but the Mavericks were able to sure up their defense and began to get into rhythm started to pull away in the second half.

During his post game interview Dennis Smith Jr. share what it was like playing with Luka Doncic for the first time.

“He is a smart player very high IQ and know how to play the game”, said Smith.

As for his thoughts on his game “I think I was solid, and I made some improvement in the areas that we been working on. He would add that “We wanted to come in a play well defensively and we were able to do that in the first half. The rules are a little different there were a lot of off the ball fouls and that slowed the game down a little bit. I think we picked it up in the second half and the score showed it.”

Doncic described his first game in a Mavs uniform by stating “I was great for me to be out there I have been looking forward to it for a long time to play a game and I’m happy to be here”, said Luka. He would add that he was a little nervous being with a new team, but thought everything went well. So, that is where it counts.

Playing with Dennis was great I think everyone saw that we have a great friendship away from the court as well. I think we did a really good job together. said Luka

The Dallas Mavericks will head to China to play the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct 5th and then again on Oct 8th before heading back home to play the Charlotte Hornets on Oct 12th.
