The current Euro League MVP Luka Doncic took part in his first media day as a Dallas Maverick. The 19-year-old from Ljubljana, Slovenia was taken third by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2018 NBA Draft but was quickly traded to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the fifth pick  Trae Young and a protected 2019 first-round pick to the Hawks. It was announced today that Doncic is projected to start and Dirk Nowitzki, who will be returning for his record-breaking 21st season with the Dallas Mavericks will likely come off the bench.

I asked Harrison Barnes about the different dynamic Nowitzki decides to come off the bench:

“Well, I think if he starts or comes off the bench. The role that he has played this last couple of years has been his ability to stretch the floor and make the defensive stay on honest on him. Spacing whether its, Dwight Powell or DeAndre rolling whoever it might be having that stretch presence is huge. Whether he is starting or coming off the bench he has great chemistry with both his point guards. I think he will be effective regardless of where he is.” Harrison told me.

As for Luka some of the goals he would like to achieve this year is making the playoffs and to win the Rookie of the Year Award. Also, he told me that he has a couple games circled on his calendar already. October 31st against the Los Angeles Lakers because LeBron James was his favorite player growing up and against the Miami and Goran Dragic. The two of them have known each other since Doncic was little and the two have played with and against each other in the past.  Doncic stated that playing with Dragic has helped prepare him to play with Dennis Smith Jr.

Also, in his interview, Luka Doncic talked about meeting Kobe Bryant for the first time at a Nike Event. Doncic would go on to say Kobe explained a lot of things to him.
