Premiere: US Virgin Islands Hip-Pop Ambassador Rokeaux Asks ‘How To Love You’

Today Hip-hop artist, Rokeaux dropped his new single “How To Love You.” Rokeaux is from the US Virgin Islands and delivers with a cool Caribbean Hip-Pop vibe.

His distinct sound fuses together his “Island Boy” influence with top 40s. His thick vocal tone holds raspy rhythm and his melodies are the perfect balance between original and infectious. Rokeaux’s music is heavily influenced by the likes of Damien Marley, Lil Wayne, Missy Elliott, Drake, and Kanye West. Rokeaux has worked closely with producers Pop and Oak (Alessia Care, Rihanna, Kanye West).

From the outside looking in, tell us how about Rokeaux the artist!

Rokeaux, the Dread-toting, island boy, gives you blends of a nonchalant Busta Rhymes style, a Pop Lil Wayne, chilling vocals, with a crazy mix of Caribbean drip. His sounds can tastefully exist in the club, the bedroom, with an emo loner, as well as rocking big stadiums with the more lifting/anthemic sounds in his catalog. Rokeaux is Animated but smooth. Sickly Skillful, but extremely humble. He still cares about innovation, originality and pushing the bar.

What drew you to express yourself through music?

Music was the first thing I found that I could successfully communicate my feelings and views, creatively, and the first time I was able to evoke substantial responses from my peers/community. I also looked up to the inspirations of the Missy Elliotts’ and Ludacris’s of the world and said, “I WANNA DO THAT!”

How did you find your balance with the Island Vibe and Hip Hop?

They first started separately. My early catalog was heavily soca/reggae/dancehall until I relocated to Florida and started to experiment with the dormant “Lil Wayne” influence within. Then I totally abandoned “island music” and start working on my rap(style), wordplay, and subject matter, but melodies were always a prominent skill. Its only in the recent years, after my peers and trusted critics, expressed the importance of me embracing my island sound, is when I welcome it back and started working on the blend, eventually growing it to what it is today. #LIGHTA

What excites you most about your current project

I’m most excited about introducing my sound to the world, trusting it will make a crazy impact, once I remained focused and consistent. I’m equally excited about representing the Caribbean, on a mainstream level, in a whole new way & wave.

For new listeners,  would you say your new single “How To Love You”  is the vibe you bring consistently or do you have a mash-up of styles?

Its one of my favorite vibes but I definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, have a mash-up of styles me doubling as a singer/rapper, which makes it my responsibility to be careful with my rollout, from sound to sound, so that it is digested in the best way possible.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

I’m really passionate about fitness and self-growth practices, I hit the gym, sometimes twice a day. I’m also extremely passionate about mentoring the promising youth of tomorrow and giving back in any/ every day I can.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

There was one time, I   fu**ed my girl in the kitchen when my whole family was home, distracted by watching the TV. Sickest paranoia ever! LMFAO!!!!!
