Too $hort Drops Hilarious & Cinematic Video For ‘Ain’t My Girlfriend’

Too $hort released “Ain’t My Girlfriend” almost two years ago. The single featured Ty Dolla $ign, Jeremih, and French Montana, and was supposed to appear on his The Pimp Tape project. After several delays, Too $hort is gearing up to bring the project to the people (hopefully) and his latest music video is a push in the right direction. Too $hort gives Joyner Lucas a verse on the updated single, and the visuals are a direct nod to the comedy Step Brothers.
In the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly flick, the “perfect” family, led by Adam Scott, take a car ride where they sing in harmony. Director Embryo opted to use that scene as the inspiration for the “Ain’t My Girlfriend” video, not including any of the artists in the video. Too $hort does make a quick cameo, but other than that, the full attention is focused on the performing white family.
From the moment the song begins, there are scenes of this upper-class nuclear family singing along to every word of the song- and we mean, every word. It’s either hilarious or super cringe-worthy, depending on who you ask.
Towards the end of the video, the family gets so into the track that the mom starts hanging out of the passenger side window while the father ghost rides the minivan. As Joyner’s part plays, we’re taken to another scene where a man is surrounded by women holding up signs that read “God Love Pimps,” and “Save a Thot.”
The creative visual features a comical cameo from the Bay Area legend and makes for a fitting introduction to his forthcoming studio album, The Pimp Tape [Dangerous Music/EMPIRE] – available everywhere November 9.
The new release comes as Too $hort receives recognition for his contributions to hip-hop with a BMI Award for the sampling of his 1987 track “Freaky Tales” on Yo Gotti’s platinum hit “Rake It Up.” Too $hort has successfully cracked the code to hip-hop immortality with 32 years, 15 million Soundscan sales, 6 platinum plaques, 4 gold certifications, and collaborations with the likes of Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., and JAY-Z.
